Why does this matter?

What's wrong with minding your own business and not judging strangers?

Aren't there more enjoyable hobbies for people to do?

wait a minute, are you saying, you don't judge me by reading my posts?

Apparently you and I have been in Canada too long and we don't understand how things are in these countries. ;)

People's posts leave an impression on me but I don't judge anybody by what they post on an internet message board.

In any case, this would be nothing like me judging you simply because you walked past me.

I have seen many unpleasant sights myself but you know what I do, I choose to look elsewhere.
I don't keep looking and then go off and whine about that which I freely chose to stare at.
I don't try to embarass or put people down, except for the ones doing this to others.

Live and let live.

Live and let live is a wonderful concept - but it is just a concept.

The reality is this - what others do reflects on all of us! We are judged here by who we associate with and how we and they behave.

When other foreigners behave badly it has an impact on the rest of us!!! AZB is correct - Santiago is still relatively unaffected by these types of relationships. We see it constantly on the North Coast and we are ALL judged as the same. We are judged based on those who came before us and those who are here now.

I was out last evening dancing - on the floor was on damn ugly gringa and her sankie boyfriend! She was about 65 and he was maybe - maybe - 25! If you don't think this reflects on the rest of us around here then you dont' understand how things actually are.

I have never seen this in Santiago - I understand where AZB is coming from.

By the way - this post was not directed at any one person just a response to the thread in general......

Were they sitting at your table?

I guess I don't understand how a society could lump people together with such a ridiculously wide brush.
I don't believe misbehaving people from a particular country reflect badly on the people of that country and I certainly don't think they reflect badly on all foreigners from all countries but again I suppose I don't understand how things are there.

Isn't this sort of like how some ignorant people lump all Dominicans with the chopos and putas?

Live and let live is more than a concept for some of us and I'm sure for some in the DR too.

Oh you are so boring. I hope everyone in canada is not as boring as you.
I love to talk behind people's backs, especially when they are not there to defend themselves. Its so much fun to judge people and laugh at them hahahaha. I know the guy she was with maybe a CEO of an oil company in Nigeria, but it seems so much more convenient to think he is a low life window washer from the streets.

You need to keep current, are you aware of 'racial profiling'? People are judged by many criteria ... where they live, with whom they associate, their appearance, their cars, their bling..... etc. In the DR, more so by association and wealth. Those are the facts. You may be idealistic, but the real world is very, very judgmental.

In my neighborhood, the residents would throw a hissy fit, if they saw prostiutes (male of female) walking around with their Johns in the area. Just like if they saw guys hanging out on the corner or parked in their cars and playing loud music or any other type of behaviour or action that would be deemed unacceptable in their communities. Even though the referenced individuals are not bothering anybody. People all over have the "not in my backyard" syndrome, so if a person who lives and knows the culture/people of the country he lives in and observes something, you have to take his word for it and probably reflects the opinion of his community. Even though he could be wrong, but if it walks and quacks like a duck....

IMHO of course.

Live and let live, my ass. you are not in woodstock smoking some ganja. This is DR. People who talk like this are the ones who hang out with putas and tigres in the first place. thats why they say, "live and let live" because they are the first ones to misbehave in a foreign land, therefore don't want people pointing fingers at them. So please save this crap for yourself. if you are old and hanging out with a barrio girl who is younger than your daughter, she will be labeled a puta and you a customer.
tell me, if you buy a house in a nice neighborhood, cut your grass and clean your lot, keep your walls nicely painted to protect your investment and all of a sudden a trailer-trash moves in next door to you. You parks his 1980 red beatup pickup truck in his parking lot, hangs his underwears out the windows to dry, never cuts his lawn, lets the grass get high as trees and panels chipping off his walls. You think you will let him "live let live" for ever? I bet you would be infuriated to see that he is bringing the real estate value down in your street and neighborhood. A few more people like him and there goes your neighborhood. No decent person will pay top dollar for your house if you want to sell it. See where I am getting at?
We don't want these cheap white trash here going out with barrio losers and seen in public hand in hand. We don't want people to think we, foreigners, all all alike. I don't want dominicans to think we are all such low lifes to go out with trashes like ghetto tigres when they actually looked up to us sometime back.
You see where I am getting at? I know your life is quite comfortable reading all this from canada. But my friend, we live here.

People?????

This type of judgement is made in all countries and all societies. Not just in the DR. People judge others by whom the associate with. That is life! Hello.?.?.?

How one handles himself or herself reflect on all of us. No big deal. That is why, male gringos who have have "chicas" and think they, as men, are lucky or big studs to have them, make all other girngos look like fools. Most "chicas" who do not have a full time man living in the country with them, have a chulo or two. That is a fact! The men who send money to their Chica, thinking they are at home being good or perhaps studying, are fools thinking they are the only men in their chicas lives. Many chicas here have 2-4 extranjeros that each send money monthly($100-$200), not a bad living for someone who doesnt do much on her feet. ;)

Of course this is so but you missed my point.

If I see some obnoxious Brits, Americans, or whatevers, I would not use this as a basis to form an opinion on the people of that country, let alone all foreigners from all countries.
People criticize ignorant idiots for lumping all Dominicans with sankies, chopos, and putas, and rightly so.

I do see where you are coming from.

I just don't agree with uninformed assumptions and broad generalizations.

Ok, let me give you an example ... credit and debit card fraud and stolen identities are mostly done by Nigerian scammers. But, many people perceive all Nigerians as scammers.

Such an assumption is not an informed opinion.

These people are just as uninformed and ignorant as those who think all Dominicans are scammers, sankies, chopos, and putas.

Obviously there are numerous examples of SOME people forming uninformed uneducated opinions but what is your point?

Mali I really don't think that anyone has ever said that all Dominicans are scammers, sankies, chopos, and putas.

It just seems that way in this forum ;)

Brotha, I know EXACTAMENTE what you are trying to say and it it's uncanny that we think the same way.

As of right this moment, I am selling my home, my great and nice home in a very nice neighborhood because a few years ago, Dominicans and Puerto Ricans decided to move into the neighborhood and not only did they bring their chopo tiguerage with them, but also brought some family members to rent in the same neighborhood.

Along with them came their lowlife ways and for that reason my house lost value, BIG TIME!.

I can't wait to move out even if I end up losing thousands of dollars but living among those lowlives is not an option!.

Btw: I am talking about ALLLLLLLL of them. It seems that one is worse than the other.

No I would not allow her to sit at my table! Unfortunately all this is very true, I have seen it and experienced it firsthand.

The fellow I am dating is from Santiago. In the beginning he would not trust me, in fact at first did not want to date me! He assumed I was like all the gringas on the north coast - he knew all about our behaviour! He has seen it enough times to know.

It took some time for him to learn we are not all the same, that he can in fact trust me. But it was not easy.

I cannot tell you how many times I have gone out and been treated like white trash by a dominican man. He would assume I was a tourist on holiday looking for a good time. And of course, I know how things actually are here and would put him right in his place!

Next time you are here, ask some locals a few questions. Ask them who are the best tourists. Ask who are the worst and why. Ask them what they think of gringas. Ask them if they will date a gringa. Ask them about the old gringos...... But you will have to get out of the tourist areas to do this! IF you ask the employees of the resorts they will not give you a straight answer, they will only tell you what they think you want to hear. YOu wil quickly find out that we in fact are all lumped together in groups.....

MQ - big difference between tourists and foreigners who actually live here. They are not the same or even close to the same.

Planner...but foreigners, the ones that live there...were once just tourists that decided to stay...

You guys might see more than some of us since you are there on a daily basis...but I don't think you KNOW what a Dominican might feel/think about tourists/foreigners...

I will assume all you guys are saying is the absolute truth...when a Dominican that LIVES in DR posts it!!!:ermm:
