I have used Mucinex, and it does work. There are several plants in my neighborhood that cause my nose to plug up at night during several months of the year, and generic Claritin works well for the runny nose that comes with that.

Gripe, does anything really help
The thread was about gripe and the thick mucus that accompanies gripe, not hay fever/allergies.
Okay, but I have used this with success to alleviate the symptoms of a cold as well. It is cheaper than Mucinex, and it prevents my runny nose.
My friend has it, Barry... he started antibiotics after days of fever and coughing.
