Although I appricate you took the time to get set up on the site, you should really think about trying to take all the bad stuff, and add a little good stuff for good measure.

I am sure you enjoyed something from your holiday?

How about a little something nice?

You lost me. I can't imagine the hotel allowing this, plus many reports thus far have never mentioned anything to this extreme, and we have had some nasty comments from there.

So for the people going shortly (like us), if you can move do it, althoug most can't and have to go no matter what.

Take everything with a grain of salt, and if all else fails :

GET DRUNK ALOT. You won't notice the small things then :)


BTW - I got a link for the photos from wondershare. I'll try and re-host them and post it here for everyone

Resort looks nice wondershare. Thanks for helping us all out.

Take it or leave it. I can only tell you what I experienced and when thinking about all the bad stuff it is hard to think about positive things. Positive a few of the staff were good except the front desk staff, beach was good except the staff who looked after the water equipment took two days off. Main pool was fine except when almost every afternoon the Signature people had three simultaneously kid activities going on so no one else could use the pool. The quality of the food over all was poor and it was too difficult to get into the a la carte restaurants and when we got in it was not special at all. Matter of fact we went to the Mexican restaruant one night and we were given nacho chips with everything but selsa and we asked and because during the day it is a pizza joint we got pizza sauce to dip our nachos in. A joke and I guess you can say growing pains but still unacceptable. I could go on and on.
As far as the flies are concerned. The DR is full of insects and when you do not have a closed environment the flies will get in. The doors are not automatic and are always left open so they can easily access the buffet. Unacceptable. Take it or leave it. You and others will probably continue to peck at me and maybe I should not have tried to provide info that I wish someone had provided me. My only intent is to give you fair warning.

I have also requested from first choice ther uptake on all this and as of yet are still waiting for a reply

I was not trying to that. Sorry if you got that impression.

I just wanted to hear some positives as well. Afterall, it was your vacation. You had to enjoyed something.

BTW - I mis-read your flies thing. Yes I could see that flies would be inside the buffet restarant. I guess you just have to life with the fact that it is the tropics and for the most part it would be unnessary (sp?) to have doors.

With this thread having been viewed approximately 47,000 times, I can't believe the management of Holiday Village Resort has not come forward with a public statement to address this situation. Do they think ignoring the consumer will make the problems go away? If the allegations are false, deny them. If they are true, state what you are doing to correct them. But the silence of the management is deafening. and creating a public relations nightmare from which they may never recover.
I have sent this thread to the hotel management (even though I can't believe they aren't already aware of it), it is their turn to step up and respond.

In all seriousness, it's cool that this thread has stayed alive for sooooo long. I was looking to get to 30 pages, but now I can see this thread getting to 70-80 pages.


GREGG: This has got to be getting close to a record for your website ? I would be interested to know this.

Secondly, I would agree that someone from Signature / First Choice or even the Hotel Manager should view this thread and at least try to address some issues within.

I would not expect them to reply here. Put yourself in there shoes. If your just in "middle" management and you post, you could land in some hot water. Companies like to keep to themselves.

Although if I was one of them, I would sure be lurking and seeing if I could retify some issues if I could.

Again though ...... The people to go after is Signature / First Choice. There the BIG guys in this whole thing.

Has anyone changed their reservations from HV to somewhere else? The pictures posted look just like Jack Tar did except for the waterslide! Yes, the "marble " in the bathroonm is a different color and the bedding is a different color. So for those of us who loved Jack Tar, I don't think there will be any difference.

Have a great time eivlys. Our family and friends will be there January 23rd. Can't wait to be there on the sun near the ocean and the pools.

Much is the same, staff, food, buildings.
Much has changed, new Asian restaurant is outstanding, class system - red bracelet vs others, repeater means nothing, very young unmanaged children everywhere, all and I mean all entertainment is geared to 3-10 year old, Nothing - absolutely nothing Dominican period. If bingo being called by a Brit is your form of evening entertainment you will be in heaven. Otherwise completely bored. The Anglo entertainers would have trouble making the cast of a high school play.

A truthful opinion

hello to all...me and my family have just returned from the holiday village Golden Beach. I have been reading though posts on this site and feel that i can offer a truthfull opinion.......
The holiday village is nowhere near a 4 star standard.We stayed there for 2 weeks (over chistmas) and was faced with endless problems..........
my idea of a holiday is to relax and have fun... NOT chase around tying to get problems sorted.
The party consisted of my husband and our two children.
The First room had no lighting in the childrens room!The shutters in the bathroom would not close shut so when taking a shower people in nearby rooms could see straight in.
The toilet backed up several times and flooded the room containing sewage.
After several failed attempts of fixing it they decided it was time to give us another room.The second room was not even fit to be given out.When it rained it rained on our bed!!
Our room was cleaned 8 times out of a possible 14....
I believed before we went that it was a new resort that was up and running smoothly..what we stepped into was a resort that had been rushed and far from up and running...the plumbing is appauling!
the food was not what you would expect from a 4star resort..It was cold...left standing a long time...flys were all over the main buffet and landing on food......
the food in the alacarte restaurants was similar to the food in the main buffet...
the staff at the front desk were rude.......
entertainment was very boring...
if you have children the children will enjoy the entertainment...
not for Adults or teens!!
Bingo seemed very popular but a hefty price to pay to play bingo each night..if i wanted to play bingo each night i would have stayed at home and gone to the local bingo hall...
Laundry room was not open (self laundry) there is a laundry service available where the cleaner takes it and brings it back..but very pricy...
For people hoping to do your own laundry you will be dissapointed as the laundry facilities are not ready...
Very dissapointed to have worked so hard all year to pay for a holiday and to arrive to a dump........

thats 1 thing that is really too bad.

you go to a country, and hope to have entertainment that is from ..... wait its coming ...... the country.

Oh well. You can't have everything your way.

I guess we need to just go into town to get some culture :) plus the monster truck thingy :)

So the red bracelet. Have you seen the adults only pool and swim up bar?

Any chance you can grab a picture of it and send it here ??

Does the Red Bracelet people get first chance at the a la carts?

I think we may need to do something with this thread.

Here's my take:

We have almost 500 posts on here.

Anyone that is new to this thread would find it difficult to navigate though everything.

We should compile a list of the current PRO's and CON's with the hotel from first hand accounts from this thread and make 1 post for it. This way someone can look at that and get most of the information from the past posts.





We should also include all the First Choice / Signature concerns as well, so we don't double, triple up on the same concerns.

Anyone wanna take on this task?

Maybe we could start , then just quote it and add on ?

Thoughts?
