I was under the impression that it was better to book with the rep. for example " Signature" because if anything happened (god forbid) you were covered by their insurance. We have gone on many excursions and found the prices close to or the same. The tours we took in Punta Cana were wonderful. We will takesome this time in Puerto Plata.

Excursions

We highly recommend the Outback Safari. It is an all day excursion which includes food, drinks and lots of local culture. It would be especially good if you have teenagers as they visit a school and a local home. We have booked through the resort before but I think we will try an outside person this time. ;)

Coffee

My husband is a big Tims fan and the coffee for him didn't cut it. He now takes his own. The first trip down south he walked around like a zombie without his coffee...we certainly learned from that experience.

The outback safari sounds like the tour we took in Punta Cana. We went to a house saw all the produce they grow, sugar cane field, lunch at a beach, school on the way home. I liked the trip. That was one of our best days in Punta Cana. We will defintly takethat one.

Tiawa - thanks for the info - I'll order El Presidente 1st!

I'm bringing my own can of Tims coffee, but I don't think the room has a coffee maker, so I'm thinking about a last minute purchase of a cheap coffee maker too!!!!

Great trip! I can't wait for my two teenage kids to experience the local culture. I believe if you google Outback Safari, you will get M'el Tours and they will have some price quotes for you. You can also email them and they are quick to return answers to any questions that you have.

Good plan on the coffee maker. My husband can go with just the instant stuff so it wasn't much of a problem. Don't get me wrong, you might like the local coffee and it is especially good with a couple of shots of Baileys in the am.

Baileys

I am not sure if our resort will have Baileys but when we were in DR three years ago, our resort did have this available. Always a nice option!!

We are not booked yet. I am trying to make sure everything sounds good. Will be booking next Saturday. We will be leaving on March 22 for two weeks. Too long a flight from Vancouver for 1 week.

Tiawa - I'll post a review and pictures when I get back on the 24th! It sounds like a lot of things have work themselves out at the HV, so I'm sure I'll have nothing but great things to report!

What is really holding me back is if I book with Signature (which has this resort) we have to go to Calgary first. If I book another hotel that I was looking at the flight is direct. We have a 12 year old and I think she would like the idea of all the kids.

It doesn't look like you can pay for extra. (see below)
What is the baggage allowance?
The baggage allowance is no more than 20kgs (44lbs) for each person. If you are a First Choice or Eclipse Premier customer, or have booked a holiday with Sovereign, you can take 30kgs of baggage per person. This baggage allowance will reduce to 23kgs per person on all premier holidays departing on or after 01 May 2007. Your baggage will be weighed when you check-in and you may have to pay excess charges if you exceed your allowance.

If you are flying with First Choice Airways, any bag weighing more than 32kg will not be accepted and you will be required to re-pack. Families sharing suitcases should ensure no one piece of luggage exceeds 32kg.

Please make sure your baggage is strong and fit for purpose. It may be handled as many as 15 times between check-in and Baggage Reclaim at your destination airport. To deliver an on-time performance the turnaround for all flights needs to be fast and so baggage must be strong in order to both protect your belongings and avoid your bag being damaged.

The baggage allowance may vary depending on the airline or flight. Please check your tickets for correct details.
