I trust in Mr. Fisher. With ALL the chatter it is impossible to get the facts.

I trust in Mr. Fisher and I thank him.

I've been told this by folks that have lived here for many years. The storm cones. Hits PR and kicks out to the north, Some rain and wind, Don't get excited, I guess they know what they talk about. I did get excited though.

Watching / reading all of the (so called) "facts" on the American
news stations regarding this storm today makes me feel as if I have
compromised myself. Not to mention, the stress it causes my loved
ones back home. Several of my friends have contacted me from
different countries across the world today concerned about my personal
safety and well-being... I am really starting to have a serious disdain
for the American news networks and the way they present these types of events.

Everything out of the NHC indicates that it will keep distancing itself from the DR.

Storm surge of 3-5 feet.

Mike should be experiencing some of the wind and rain bands according to the radar and satellite images.

I think I am going with the near miss.

The North Shore will be hit with winds and waves, and most of the issues will be flooding.

We should not get really blasted.

Once again, The Virgen de la Altagracia has protected her country...

Keep safe and help your neighbors..

Yes, I am receiving messages from all over too. People I did not hear from in a year etc....

Anyway. Where the heck is Mike? I want some definitive analysis. I've stocked the fridge and freezer with enough beer, meat, and beer, plus 20 packs of Ramon noodles and beer. I hate this.

For those that question the extent of hurricane winds, perhaps the attached NHC graphic of the extent and width of hurricane and tropical force winds to date, is better than the forecast percentage graphics.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/235728.shtml?swath#contents

If you can identify islands such as Barbuda and St Martin (which both saw the eye) on the map you will see that the width of hurricane force winds are wider on the north side of the track and equally the tropical storm force winds are wider north of the track.

If you continue this forward on the projected NHC track, it would seem unlikely Santo Domingo will get any tropical storm force sustained winds along with the bottom south west third of the country.

Everybody seems concerned with the winds, which we should be to an extent, but I don't think many are paying attention to the possible rainfall amounts in a short period of time. This is where my concern lays.

Here is what is happening at present.

https://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=jua

NHC states this:

Northern Dominican Republic and northern Haiti...4 to 10 inches,
isolated 15 inches

Most of the rain is close to centre. But the coastal ranges may be a factor in DR and account for the isolated 15 inches NHC mention.
