Just got some bags of ice (and extra tequila), topped up the truck, and put possible flying objects in the garage. Made sure the batteries for flashlight were charged.
On a drive through the neighborhood this morning, saw less that a dozen houses boarded up.
My primary concern will be the extended period with no luz.
wind has been picking up steadily all day.

News saying it's eye is coming apart and less velocity. I'm getting bands of wind and rain but not scary yet. Power still on Daytona. Hoping for the best.

good luck to you and all the rest.
Irma is a low end Cat2 loosing powers since before it approached Naples, that's good of course.
it's forward speed is solid 12mphr, the faster the better to get rid of it.
the eyewall is collapsing on all sides.
as it is completely over land i would say the north get's lucky with Irma not able to rebuild that over land.
such falling apart machinery can still hold Hurricane powers as a Cat1 for many more hours before it reaches downwards of the margin and continues as a TS and the TD/Renmnants of Irma.
something already bothered the machinery before the Naples Landfall,
i did not pay attention on the western conditions of Irma, as the Tracking was the more important thing to keep an eye on.
this could still have TS Force over SW Georgia and even in the middle of Alabama later on,
but i would more likely await winds in the 30mphr range or down only for central Alabama.

The video is from CNN:
"Matthew Spuler took this video from a high-rise overlooking Biscayne Bay in Miami."

Anybody familiar with the area?

Here are some videos of the Brickell Ave area and downtown Miami a little later. Miami is about 100 miles east of Naples where Irma made landfall.

Shows you just how lucky we were on the north coast to be on the weak side of Irma - and it was almost 50 mph stronger then:

how are our Floridian Bordmembers doing today
and what the heck is up with jstarebel? no news, yet?
all the best to everyone.
at least, even no relief for the ones that already been in the Path yesterday, Irma lost quickly it's powers and is just a TS now on further decline.
anybody on here from the Clearwater area? would like to get real info about the area here instead of the News.

in the meanwhile,Hurricane Jose.
the prior mentioned ridge off the US East will Turn it, it already slowed down,
but how much it turns and how many cycles etc is very uncertain, as the steering patterns are shifting.
it could take a full 270 degrees turn and continue with the Easterlies to push it, but they show up week up there actually.
it could do a U-Turn and wander mostly Southwards back towards PR and DR.
this morning it looks most likely that it may take the most unusual of all Storm Headings, Tracking SE'wards.
again, the steering patterns are shifting, Jose could end up anywhere and he even could get stuck up there anddie almost stationary at the end.
what it does, is to birng Waves towards our Island's Northshores, where wave activity is absolutely not welcome these days.
the strange offshre Seais even felt over here on the East for the nearer to Shore waters North of the Cape.

the Disturbance W of the Cape Verde Islands will not become anyconcern for the Caribbean,
it has no big chances for big development and anyways is on it's way up to the Graveyard in the Central Atlantic.

So Mike, we dodged a bullet here in Daytona. I still have power. A lot of wind damage but we didn't get the kind of rain we were expected. Not as bad a Mathew last year. So we're good. Thanks for all your knowledge this past week.

I've been to many islands here in the Caribbean. In general, the concrete block houses are built very well. Many have concrete roofs which is a plus. Wood frame houses don't fare so well, mostly becuase they don't require roof straps in their building codes - same with CB homes with wood truss roofs.

A general lack of hurricne shutters anywhere here in the Caribbean doesn't help. The media just shows too many pictures of poorly constructed houses in the barrios after a hurricane.

When Andrew hit Miami with 165 mph winds, there wasn't much left standing where the eye wall went through , including well constructed CB homes.

Thanks, Mike, for all your informative reporting.

glad to hear.
just back from school and nice to see that Irma is contiuingto go downwards and speeding up on forward move, running above 15Knots forward, the faster the better and the quicker it is over.
the left side of Irma should be down to uner 30mphrs winds, the dangerous times for the winds are over.
I have no notice about what the Waves did to Florida, I imagine the Naples are to be slammed quiet harsh by the Ocean.

now we just need a sign of jstarebel, maybe a selfie taken in a roofless but well stocked Bar on the Virgins with a drink in hand and half a dozen not so virgin beauties surrounding him.

I just checked the windy site, and the chart says that I'm in for 56 mph gusts until 2100. Whats curious, is that it doesn't appear to correlate with the wind stations shown on the map.

a just fallimg apart Storm does not disappear from one moment to an other.
there stay still strong windy areas out tere, Tornadoes can form and all that stuff for many hours after a Storm is declared "downgraded".

The storm weakened after hitting landfall.

Tampa did fine, as did most of the west coast of FL. Trees & signs down, some onto structures and cars (like Alida's sister in Miami Lakes), aluminum parking shelters down.

Flooding was no where near what was predicted.

Power still out in many areas, but looks like they did fine.

I've not heard from my property manager. My concern is a huge, old camphor tree on the property.

FL was well prepared.
