19. FIRST CAR? My first year of college my parents came to the States and bought a 1956 Cadillac c1966. When they returned to the DR they left it to me. Turned out to be a great dating vehicle. Big, big back seat!

I am on page 44 which is still the forward in the version I have. Just started and it has been slow going. I read with a spanish/english dictionary and look up each word I don't know and then write it down in a looseleaf notebook.

I got the spanish paperback version I am reading from Amazon. The ISBN number is 84-376-0494-X just in case you want to pick it up.

I enjoyed reading through everyone's responses. DRMarine, those jets flying over make some of us kind of scared. I stayed a few days in El Jefe's area last summer and it would be a great place to live. I guess we should start calling you Don Hillbilly. Maybe TW will make an appearance for this one.

WHAT ARE YOUR BEST "CHOPO" QUALITIES? i love listening to blasting merengue and bachata, especially in my car... when i was in the dr in january i stayed with my boyfriend in an apartment his mom has but doesnt use since she lives in NYC... the hot water 'bomba' was broken so he spent a day to fix it and off course when 'se fueron las luces' there was no water at all... washing my hair in the sink with a water bottle... yeah, that was as chopa as i allow myself.

Let me know what you think of the book once you're done. The last leisure book I read in spanish was "A oriallas Del Rio Piedra Me Sente Y Llore" by Paulo Coelho. I didn't have much of a problem with the reading it but it was really dry reading and I wouldn't suggest it. Still looking for another book to read...any suggestions?

Weather in upstate NY sucks!!! It's cold, ugly and the short days...can't wait for the spring.

It's the story of Trujillo and the conspiracy to assasinate him, written by Mario Vargas Llosa. It was published last year and is highly, highly acclaimed. I loved it (as much as you can love the story of such a sick, sick, perverted man.) I think they're making it into a movie...Anyway, it's an excellent read...
