A pizza that looks this good can be round, square, or even in the shape of the Star of David................
I could feast on this all day long..............

In the Puerto-Plata / Sosua district, try ( LA COMPLETA ) at the military base at the airport. If you don t like corn, just mention them.

I always made bruschetta in the DR instead of getting pizza. Basil sells for pennies down there and pesto is easy enough to make. Cut a loaf of French Bread into 1" slices(or cut it in half lengthwise and cut the top and bottom off) slather some pesto on it, put some slices of roma tomatoes on it and bake it on a pan heavily coated with olive oil. Top with some grated parm (or fresh Mozz) and return to the oven until the cheese just melts. Easy peasy.

I made pizza here a month or so back by cooking the crust first on a grill, covered it with pesto, then topped it with a mix of roasted Red Peppers, Yellow Squash, Red Onion and Eggplant, with a touch of Kosher Salt. Finished it off with some Mozz and baked it all to melt the cheese in a regular oven. I just might have to make that again...

omg square pizza I cant cope
Us NYC folks call it Sicilian. It's awesome with right toppings or just with right amount of sauces and heavy dose of cheese, it's what I call orgasmic experiences in mouth. God how I miss slices of pizza in almost every corners in the street, dirty water dogs and spicy Gyros. :(

You have to know the people that work in the particular pizza place you're ordering from here..

A meat lovers pizza from Pala Pizza is an embarrassment. I used to order pizzas from the one down the street from me a couple of times a week. They got to the point where they recognized my voice.

Every time I called, I'd tell them I want a "gringo" pizza, a "BIG GRINGO" pizza, with lots and lots of meat, and then pleasantly tease the girl about how the last one hardly had anything on it.

They'd always laugh, and tell me "OK, we're going to make you a real gringo pizza, and they would pile on the ingredients.

I'd stop in occasionally to pick one up personally, always joke around with them about how "bare" the pizza was, and made sure they got a big tip when they gave me a monster.

I didn't realize how good they were treating me, until I moved, and started getting the "normal" pizzas again.
I got to try this when I goto one in Moca. I don't know if they still remember me but I've been going there several times and they treated me right. I gotta ask if they can give me "gringo style" meat lover. lol

That type of Sicilian style pizza was very popular in upstate NY where I am from and is indeed the best style for me personally. if you never had it, you would not know how good it is. When I mention that there is no good pizza here, it is because there is nothing that comes close to it. Not even remotely close to it.

The funny thing about " Chicago Style" which is another name for "Deep Dish" most people born and raised in Chicago do not eat it. Its manily for tourist and people new to Chicago.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. I have only lived in Chicago for 40 years, but if you want to call me new to Chicago, I can cite that my children were born and raised here, and they will tell you that I am right. Tourists may go to Uno's for their pizza, but Chicagoans all know that Malnati's is the best in town. They have started making a thin crust pizza as a concession to outsiders, but they are famous for their deep dish pizza (which was started in Chicago). They ship all over the workld.

There is Sicilian, and then in the cow towns you see that horrible round pizza made from biscuit dough, covered with a sweetened sauce, and some kind of cheap cheese-- then cut into squares. This is NOT Sicilian:

I'm in upstate NY in a college town and the place I go to makes a great deep dish with 7" square slices almost an inch thick. Crispy bottom with a slight char and a marshmallowy inside. They use a pound of dough and a pound of whole milk mozzarella to make a four slice pizza. Extra toppings? 30 cents per slice or a buck for a whole pizza.

Now just put some great Italian sausage and canned mushrooms on that Sicilian and you will know what I am talking about.

I am pretty sure the my store didn't use the hand crushed sauce but the owner always told me not to tilt their box, because all the cheese will be spilled to the box. God only knows how much I miss hearing that...
