I run an educational technology program for poor Dominican children. I can tell you from the skill level when they started the program that the participants had never previously touched technology.
That was almost a year ago. Recently, I was doing a case study on the program for a graduate class I was taking. Doing so, I had volunteers interview all the participating kids. One question was, "Did you ever use a computer or iPad before coming to the program?"
Almost every child answered, "Yes, we have a computer in our house."
I know where these kids live. I know that the days they don't have running water or electricity out number the days they do.
Why, then, would they have a computer in the house? And why would they say they had used it?
