Cabarete

Ilumel delivers in one or two days every time. No BS there...

And if a piece of furniture comes in parts it is put together before the men leave your house........
I just looked on their website and couldn't find any branch addresses. Do they have branches where you can see the products (especially on the north coast for me) or are they just online?

One of the best things about living in DR is that you can get things made. Go to IKEA, go to Ilumel, take a photo of what you like then go to Villa Consuelo and find a guy to make the same article. You'll get it for a fraction of the price and in proper wood, not the crap that IKEA uses. And you can choose your fabric.

IKEA is great for things like plates and glasses, and to get ideas, but I wouldn't buy furniture there. It's so expensive these days as well. Most of their sofas are heading up towards RD$ 50,000. US$ 1000 is quite a lot to pay for a sofa which is made of particle board not wood, and has cheap cheap fabric.

I have also been using Facebook Market quite a lot recently. I saw a rug that I liked in IKEA and found exactly the same rug on Facebook Market, excellent condition, for less than 20% of the price IKEA was charging. So it's well worth checking out.

For anything larger than a table lamp, I’d estimate that the prices in SD are marked up anywhere between 20-50% in comparison to Canada.
For smaller items, most seem cheaper.
I think housing managers have caught on to this and have started taking photos of Ikea stuff (and even Illumel) to local craftsmen. Win win.
I recently priced out what it might cost to fully furnish a one bedroom apartment strictly from Ikea. I included linens, towels, dishes, bed, sofa, etc. The price range was around $200K pesos, not including major appliances or a television, but basically everything else. I chose their mid range stuff, nothing super cheap. I’d definitely not deliver that kind of quantity but maybe hire a truck and hope for the best.

They have door delivery, has anyone tried that? I’d not be ordering a full apartment or anything large, but just a few smaller household items.

I don't buy furniture from Ikea, but recently, purchased plastic chairs for our preschool and kitchen cabinets for the learning center. I went to Santo Domingo to look at them and ordered them, then picked them up in Santiago. The door for one of the cupboards was not in stock. They were indefinite when it would arrive. About 6 weeks later, they called from Santo Domingo to say that it has arrived and I can pick it up in Santiago.

Never used their delivery service. Love the stuff in the market place, downstairs in Santo Domingo. But typically, there are only certain things I buy at Ikea.

Well I’m tempted to try delivery to Santiago…but of course this thread has me apprehensive about that.
A trip to the capital might be the best, but then watch the items I want be out of stock when I do make it.
Anything particle board, some of their wood, and even some of their metal just doesn’t stand up here.

I had two deliveries here in Santo Domingo Este without any issues. Lots of furnitures and a variety of other items.

I have an IKEA mattress set, topnotch comfort and is still very good after 8 years. Frame is caoba.

Their mattresses are seriously expensive and they only fit IKEA beds as they are a funny size. Much better to get mattresses made here. The quality is amazing and they are reasonably priced. I have bought maybe 30 mattresses in the last ten years all from the same guy in Villa Consuelo and never had to change a single one.

I bought mine at a moving back to the states sale, not expensive and almost new. Woman and her husband, borh Dominican Americans retired, he loved it and she hated it. She moved back to live with a daughter in Florida, he stayed in his parents old house in Santo Domingo.

I bought mine from Mueblerias Nacional. They sent me to the factory to pick it up. When I got there, the guy asked me if I wanted to watch while they make it. It took them about 20 minutes from start to finish.
It was a great experience.
