I learned something today. I went to get my marbete for mt 2020 Subaru but my number on my paperwork(matricula) didn't match the one on the computer, say what, it did the year before. Off to the government office where I found out that when I paid off my car loan last month the government issues a new matricula with a different number. It takes two to three weeks to get it, even though it is already changed on their system. The new one will be sent to the bank, so I have to wait until I receive it until I can get my marbete. What a country.

Had a similar thing happen a few years ago. But I think it was a simple data entry error where a "0" was typed as an "O" when the transfer of title was made. Had to go to Puerto Plata to get it fixed.

Come to the Nacional at Fruisa without anything other than the copy and the money and I will proove YOU WRONG............Some people working in these places have NO clue. But I can take you to places in addition to the one I mentioned that do NOT want a Cedula..........

Maybe the person you were talking to actually didn't know the answer, but told you one just so that he didn't look ignorant. It seems to happen often here.

The person I talked to was VERY clear that a person with a cedula was required to purchase a Marbete.
Virtually every transaction made in the DR requires a cedula for proof of identity.
Just because the cedula is not asked for, does not mean it is not a requirement.
As I mentioned our cedulas (and pictures for confirmation) were already available easily on his computer terminal.

I posted this before. It was quoted directly from JD's post. Read it along with the translation. Then look at what he posted and see if you can find ANYTHING related to needing a Cedula.

Translated to English.

No mention of a Cedula or anything else.................

No error, I paid off the loan and they issued a new matricula, that I now have in my possession, and I was able to get my Marbete with it, but I still need to go to La Vega to a certain Impuestros office to get it reissued or something and present them with letter from the bank saying the vehicle is mine free and clear title with no debt.

Very interesting discussion. I also have NEVER been asked to present a cedúla, and only in the past 5 years have my current car been registered under my name. Previously it was under a 3rd party, and NEVER ever have I been asked to present a cedula, and I have ALWAYS gone to La Nacional just across the street from Playero. And every time I've been to that office I've seen a bunch of those motoconcho guys with 10+ matriculas and I have never seen them show their cedula to the teller.
So Windy, what does that tell you? That we are ALL incorrect, or that as someone else wrote, the teller probably just made something up to look "smart" or for whatever else reason?
I mean at least in my interaction with many Dominicans, even if I can show them they are incorrect, the sky is NOT green it's Blue, just because they cannot stand being wrong they will still say that the sky is Green.

Because if it's true what you say that the reason why you don't need to show your cédula is because they already have it on their computer when you hand over the matrícula and its attached to your car, then how would they know if I'm not the registered owner of the car? Or do they just know that EVERYONE that goes in there has a cedula? Well obviously all the natural dominicana do have it, but they still don't need to show it when requesting the marbete for a vehicle they are not the registered owner to, which this whole discussion is about.

What they do for other people I have no idea, other than the apparent lie I was told, since my wife and I purchased our vehicles and our cedula numbers were both in the database for the Marbete.

No. I have no personal experience on such motoconcho bulk Marbete buyers. I understand they exist since several have said
they have no need for cedulas.

I will never get over the lie the teller told me that a cedula was needed to purchase a marbete.

If anyone is asked for a cedula, who does not actually have one, while trying to purchase a marbete, that would be interesting.
I certainly don't expect that will ever happen now. Oh the lies...

Stop the back and forth about cedulas. It is very clear that not everyone has the same experiences. This thread is/was about the Marbete being available. Winde there is no reason for you to ask anyone if they have a cedula.
