What is the latest on Los Delfines water park? I know it is closed, but does anyone know why it closed, if there are plans to reopen it, what's the story?

Juan Dolio - South Beach of the Caribbean !!!
The secretary of Tourism, Felix Jimnez, announced that within the goals to diversify the tourist supply of the country contemplates to turn to Juan Dolio to South Beach of the Caribbean or prepared zone to receive the visit of important personalities, specially of the jet-set international . In addition, he informed that two Marinas in the area will be constructed, and the one between Juan Dolio and the Higano river, which will attract a greater number of tourists of high consumption. Jimnez offered the details during the Breakfast of DAILY newspaper LISTN Diario... Jimnez announced that in this period of government the construction of towers of up to 15 and 20 floors will be authorized in Juan Dolio. Nevertheless, it informed that they have unified the development norms, and consequently, buildings one next to the other will not be able to be constructed. It indicated that there will be a minimum of meters to allow people to walk by the inner streets, to see the sea and the gardens of the area. They will not settle down more density of 400 rooms by hectare, if it is allowed: for example a rate of minimum occupying of terrain for projects would be a 40 percent of development, in that case would allow the construction of 10 floors, explained the secretary of Tourism. It showed that when the rate of occupying of terrain is 30 percent will be equivalent to 15 floors, and that when it has a rate of 25 percent will have 20 floors. The new projects that would be developed in the zone will be of between 10 and 20 floors. Transformation From the past year in Juan Dolio the real estate tourism is being developed and many foreigners are doing of this country his second house, as far as investing in houses and apartments, explained Jimnez. It needed that due to the natural wealth in this zone and its enormous potential as destiny, has conquered to a segment of the tourist sector of high spending power

The above was post #1 of this thread in 2007.............and when I visited Juan Dolio in April 2018...........11 years later...........it looked like all the promised construction was on time....................Dominican time that is.............

Just kiddin' Joe.. Trying to keep it going too.

I was married to a girl from La Romana for a few months and drove through there a bunch of times last year. JD just can't seem to get a break.

Attention is concentrated on Punta Cana/Bavaro region.
JD was "created" to make money for the developers and nothing more.
The only future I see for JD is that it will be a commuter city.

JD is not bigger ghost town thanks to the 2 all inclusive, Costa Cariba and Emotion. Apartments there are most of the time in a year closed, you can see more people arround on weekends and most of then just going to the beach. Was not very good Idea to close Capella Hotel and replace it whit Condo Hotel that will bring more closed apartment to the area.

Hopefully Hodelpa could be restarting the jobs to prepare their 3rd property in JD that was stoped because they started new Hotel in Punta Cana, one in Puerto Plata and 3 hotesl in Santo Domingo.

Juan Dolio has become a satellite hub for SPM and SDQ -- money people live and commute from it to the other two extremes for work. Metro and Guabaverry are now urban areas.

Will be in JD this weekend; hoping for a quiet, tranquil time... away from the boom boxes and bachata. GF is tired of the POP/ Bavaro scene, hopefully this will be a decent diversion.

I agree, I have friends who live in Metro.

Not a middle class neighborhood, that's for sure.

Any information regarding the Costa Blanca development? I believe this was to be the project with a marina and golf course.

For that part of the country, those two developments, Metro and Guavaberry, are very affordable. Lovely golfing.

I have always enjoyed the Juan Dolio areas, but it always seems to be dead except on holidays.
