Someone from the newly formed Junta de Vecinos stopped me today and said i need to pay rd$100 a month to them. The lady said every apartment needs to pay this every month.

Is this correct? I have never paid them monthly in the 21 years I've lived here. If this is correct they would make at least rd$4000 or more every month. What would they do with this money? Is it the law?

If it is the law could you send me a link to this information please?

We have a Junta de Vecinos in our campo. No dues. They raise funds for trips (like to Higuey church) but no monthly obligation from anyone

I just asked my SIL, and she said basically the same thing as AE. She said sometimes they pay "dues" for something like weed/garbage cleaning. Meaning they pay someone at times to clean weeds and any litter around the area. I would ask what exactly are these "dues" going toward.

You are saying 100 Dominican pesos a month? That is around $1.76 USD a month. Now, I would question it even though it is a very low amount. If I have never been asked for or charged this before then again, I suggest you ask. But for $1.76 more or less, I would probably not stress it.

No law at all. Every Junta de Vecinos / HOA have their own norms/regulations and in this case, please talk to them on why they're asking $$ for that.

My building only has 11 apartments. I got hit for 100 a month last month because they want a lady to come in and clean the stairwells every week.
I saw her the other day, and she was out sweeping the entire parking area.
I think 100 a month for that is pretty cheap.

I will ask the neighbors what they pay. I just can't see what they would do with all that cash. There are around 70 families in our little neighborhood. $7000 a month collected is a lot of cash. I'm always cautious. Im the only extranjero in my neighborhood.
7000 Pesos a lot of cash?

That is a building. I paid maintenance in a building i lived in before but this is a neighborhood of private homes. This is a neighborhood. Santo Domingo Este in front of the Molinos Flour Mill. Many poor families.

Perhaps the best place to start would be to speak with the member who notified you and ask her to clearly identify what it will be used for and who is keeping the financial records.

Most folks here on the board do not understand that a peso to a Dominican is the same as a dollar to us expats. My neighbors are folks that won't allow a colmado or any other business to stiff them on one peso.
