Yes, but blogs can be pretty interactive too.

Not if you can rationalize wishing good luck to somebody playing Russian Roulette or to a child playing in traffic.DominicanScotty said:I simply wish him well. You should too, or is that too much?

As I explained in a previous post, not only does a business failure have a negative effect upon the business owner, but in the microcosim of the DR, it has a negative effect on established successful businesses. In the 6 months a failing business stays open it can drain the resources of other people in the same field. As I stated, we lose many employees to new businesses every year. We are hurt because of the costs of recruitment and training and lost production. These businesses have zero chance for success, yet cost us because of their ideas which are doomed to failure. The same is true for any industry or service on the island.DominicanScotty said:Is it his money or...... yours? As he has written, he seems to understand the risks.
AZB said:domincanscotty has a point. We should all wish him good luck. Its his money and he is an adult who has accomplished far more material wealth than most of us on this board. If he losses his money then he has learned a lesson and if he becomes successful then its his win. Its not totally impossible for a foreigner to have a successful business in this country.
Good luck John.

I realize there are kind people like Chris, amongst others, who are only trying to help and offer words of advice that may help him succeed in the business world in the DR. I think maybe the better response to these offers (by Johne) would've been "thanks, but no thanks, this is what I want to do, and I'm going to do it anyways".
However, who knows? He may be one of those people that everything he touches turns to gold. Whatever happened to "nothing ventured, nothing gained"? Johne has a few bucks he's willing to lose, and is willing to use those $$$ to help the DR economy...so what's the problem here? Again, John, I wish you the best of luck.
He did his homework and invested his time as well as his money in his real estate ventures. As far as other businesses, he in fact received plenty of cautionary advice. Hmm, haven't heard much about the restaurant lately.Anna Coniglio said:I wonder why no one gave Escott this kind of advice?![]()
Anna Coniglio said:He posted the begining of a business but no one gave him this kind of advice or warning. Not many. Why? because we know more about him.

MrMike said:Well he basically came on here and said,
"All of your hard-earned experience and cumulative wisdom are worthless to me and I am going to jump in and purposely do things many of you have cautioned not to and prove you all wrong, and I only want to hear from people who think I am doing the right thing"
Obviously he didn't say exactly that in those words but that's the message I am getting so far.
I am not sure there is an appropriate response for a statement like that, but if there is I am pretty sure it's not "I wish you well".
