It's been a few hours, was expecting Yannadu to show up stating, "Cucarachas are very healthy once cooked and disinfected. Solar ovens will roast them nicely in about 15 hours (do the math), and I like them with lemon pepper which I make from home using lemons (.02 pesos) and pepper (I sweep up the excess peppercorns in the store and crush them with my duct tape shoes)."

yum yum yummy

The cost has risen sharply recently. My power costs RD$1200 more, same usage. I spend RD$5200 more in gasoline, same mileage. That's US$185 a month more.

Cucarachas and alikes are High Protein part of the Diets in Asia, ever been eating any of the "Bugs" fried there on the DStreets?, they are Yummie and better for your health/Diet than any Mc Donalds Hot Dog Crap could ever be, ha ha ha.

the usual/typical Dominican Hot Dog Sausages I never found any Tasty, IMHO they are a waste of eating time and money spent.
there are some good German Butchers on the Isle, here we are talking something differnt.

Yes,
If You would know what is all inside such Sausage You most likely would run Vegetarian the rest of Your Life,
I know what's inside and I Love it.
Predators eat Meat, Meat is dirty, and Meat is GOOD@!

Ever hear of a "Dirty Water Dog"?? You would never eat any other Hot Dogs:p

I'm 45 and as far as I know fit as a fiddle. I grew up eating mostly hotdogs and peanut butter so I don't see any point in stopping now. At any rate I'm Catholic so you should know we eat just about animal that walks, crawls or otherwise moves and prefer to top it off with a few cold beers. :)

I never had much of a liking for Germans, but hey... you have to be honest... out here they are the best bakeries, the best butchers, and since I found a pate I liked, somehow my favorite people here...

Ouch... that hurts a lot.... never mind... they still do not know how to make a decent beer... lol

Sorry Mike

Beer from Belgium is the best.
On the high speed train from Brussels to Paris I used to have a Leffe Blonde.
One of the deprivations of living in the DR.

Hi MA

Nice to have some specific figures, but could you explain three things please?

1) For how long is this canasta supposed to last? (I guess a week?)

2) Does it include all household necessities (cleaning, hygiene, farmacia, etc) or just food and drink?

3) If the basket for the poorest income group includes everything that is "needed" (to stay alive and healthy?), then would I be right in assuming that all the additional expenditure in the other four income groups is on things that are not really "needed" but are desirable extras, and, in the case of the most affliuent group, would include some extravagant luxuries?
