Experience tell me, it's more likely I overpaid than having gotten a good deal (was in Charamicos down at the sea). Especially since i needed to google Bonito and won't likely even notice the difference (and of course I am a gringo).
Where is 'here' for you?
Chris
Chris,
"here" for me is on the southern tip of the eastshores, at Cap Cana and Cabeza de Toro, too far from you to make a fishie worth the travel costs, lol.
very most people couldn't tell a Bonito(and that's a mayor word, used for many many different "Tuna-styles", depending on location, too) from a good Tuna.
here around the Island, Bonitos hide the same high danger as the Barracudas, to be highly toxic.
just ona Barracuda you can tell by it's small size that it's too young to have the toxic already in it's flesh.
on a Bonito i couldn't guess on the age by it's size, unless it would be a very small baby.
a Tuna like a yellowfin is here a very valuable fish and costs it's price,
a Bonito is difficult to sell at all, even cheap.
next time, ask the seller what exact kind of "Tuna" the fish is, type that in your smartphone and take a look on the thousand photos popping up in google or look on a description on a page like Wikipedia and alikes.
it makes for a fun chat with the fishy sellers, when you show them a photo and it is the same fish, just don't start a fight in case you see that they had no clue or tried to scam ya, in such case just tell " maybe next time, buenas tardes".
