Even better...Burger Ya! in Los Jardines...awesome 8 oz grilled Angus burger for 132 pesos, tax included! :D

All I wanna know is do they have tomatoes LOL. Everytime I go to a Dominicano food place they'll have all kinds of stuff to put on a burger EXCEPT regular old lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, etc.....

Yep, they sure do (well, maybe not pickles)...and if you get it to go they wrap the burger separately in tin foil so it stays hot and doesnt mess up the bun or the veggies...and by the way...the burger even fits the bun!

They also have many combinations like TGIFriday's or Chili's with bacon, mushrooms, grilled onions, different cheeses, bbq sauce, etc...AND they have fries smothered in cheese sauce for 40 pesos!!

The owner lived in the US for many years so she "gets it"!

In this posters "humble" opinion,"Look Out!"
Several key factors are in play to wreak havoc on the DR economy.
Number 1,is the way the PLD is borrowing,AND then wasting, HUGE sums of money.
According to today's"Diario Libre","Leonel" has increased the DR's international debt,"Deuda External" by over 21% in the last 12 months! 21%!
This debt must be repaid in US dollars. As the value of the DR peso falls against the US dollar, the external debt rises, even with no additional borrowing.
As history shows us,the Governments 0f the DR,not important which Party holds the reigns, have an thirst for borrowing!"Jepettas",and beach houses don't come cheap.
For example, the DR just borrowed over 428 billion pesos, that's pesos with a "B".That's well over a "B"illion US dollars,to "begin" to pay for phase 2 of the "METRO"
Which brings us to THE METRO!
To paraphrase Sir Winston Churchill,(A HERO To Me!)"Never have so many paid so much, for so few".
Don't they have ANY idea how many schools they could have built for 428 billion pesos?
Instead,a few thousand people a day ride an "Underground"!
Inflation in the DR rose 14 % over the last 24 months,(Again, today's Diario Libre)that at a time when the World wide recession has most countries at about 1 to 2 %,or negative.WHY,Spend,Spend,Spend,so they can Steal,Steal.Steal!
The way things loook now,"Papa" will "LLego" in just over 1 year. What wiil THAT do to the pesos exchange rate against the US dollar?Well, last time "Papa" was in the driver's seat,I changed $5,000 US at 56 to 1!
Leonel is fighting hard to keep the rate artificially low,WHY? because all the DR's debt is paid back in US dollars. The DR will not be able to meet it's current obligations! The debt will have to be "Renegotiated" with the "IMF","World Bank",and all the other international banks to keep from defaulting. All those "so called" lending bodies, are just as much to blame for what has happened to the economy here, and what will keep happening,as the DR!
My suggestion? All of you who have income in US dollars,or maybe even better,"Euros",SAVE THEM!!!They might be wort more than twice as much against the peso as they are today, within a year after "Papa" takes office! Even if "Danilo" wins, the DR faces insurmountable pressure to devalue the DR peso.
There you have it.One man's look into the "Crystal Ball" of the DR's economy!
Read It And Weep"!!! UNLESS,you have some hard currency to take full personal advantage of the coming"Collapse"!

You know, the ones who don't have "Drug Money" to by the condos you like to think makes the DR a great place to invest.
You can put all the "Lipstick"you want on a "pig",it's still a "PIG"!!!!!!!

Dont waste your time bro, I have been told to stay out of domestic politics. Papa is the best thing since Cialis you would think. "Even shoe-shine boys had a 1000pesos in their pocket." Doubtful but that is his legacy. I said in response it would be better to await Jesus and all them little billy goats than for anything Mejia can do.

Too many folks in college and not enough learning trades. Always work available for those who can work with their hands. More law school students than jobs available for them all.

well, frank the problem is the vocational careers of late dont pay what the white collars one do. So with that in mind, many students who have the aptitude dont pick those careers or dont stay.
Lawyers are averaging $200-450/hour for the juniors and much more for the partners. That is what people see. Plumbing and electricians dont leave the house with that kind of panache. Schwargenegger mentioned the very same thing when he was Governor of California. There is no investment in trade careers for the able. We consider it the last resort for the dumb kids.

And seriously, I had an interview with the BOCES program in Columbia County, NY, like 2 or 3 years ago to be an instructor for the automotive program and they were just giving the kids make work. The ______ kids, that is. Cars these days are nothing like 1940-50s so training them to be technicians like mechanics of those days will not fly.

Those prices are what a law firm charges. Most lawyers do not see that much money. I was a electrician and while I did not make a fortune I did average well over 100k for ther last 15 years or so that I worked. Good money in the DR or in Argentina where I am now.

Huh? Bro, it is the same thing with your car. When you bring it to a shop and they charge $100/hour, the dude servicing the car doesnt make that. I worked for a Lincoln Mercury dealer a few years back Upstate NY and these guys were Ford Master Techs and they were capped at $26K. Ha! I skipped town on them. There is no way to acquire $20-40K in hand tools to live on $26K. That shiit is for the birds.
I worked for a Toyota dealer in Fort Lauderdale, and the guy next to me was a Mazda Master and this guy is pulling $15/hour? Where the labor rate was $90? This was in 2005 and all of these guys were older than me and All of these guys were living with their parents! I decided it was better to work for myself. I can offer a lower rate than any competitor and pocket all the proceeds for myself.

I dont know about you bro, but I DO NOT see an investment in vocational careers where one hands get dirty but the skill acquired is intangible to earning potential. Even old world careers are lucrative if you are an artisan. Authentic wood-working is a premium skill if you can make furniture.

US has a great shortage of lawyers.

Urgently needs to train more!

This will bring prices down.

If you don't drive chances are you don't need a motor mechanic.

Not using a car is very good for the environment. SUV's make good artificial reefs.

Yanandu.
