I moved the vaccine comments to the Problems with vaccines past and present thread.

Folks, stick to the subject of the thread. Thank you.

So if 5 in 1,000 people died before the new antiviral pill and that cuts the death rate to 2.5 out of 1,000 will that be sufficient to end all restrictions world wide and relegate CV19 to the deadliness of a bad flu?

(I am still waiting to see curfews fully lifted in POP Province since it magically hot 70% vaccination rate a while ago. )

Did you not know that POP has hundreds of AI's as does Pederneles. They both"magically"hit 70%.................

I understand why you moved it................but the subject of the thread you moved it to is vaccines past and present.

The Merck pill is not a vaccine.........so the thread may need more latitude as other anti-viral therapeutics like Remdesivir, Ivermectin, Hydroxychloroquine, and such now come into play as discussion topics.

Apples/Oranges comparison.

One is an anti-viral drug............the other a vaccine.

One is "supposed" to prevent Covid.....the other to manage it once Covid is contracted;

It may gain emergency use authorization to be used somewhere between the placebo-like SI No Vac and before the other ant-viral, Remdesivir.

The pill is very handy to have... once you have the virus you have about 24 to 48 hours to take it....I caught H1N1 flu about 8 years ago in Minnesota, the emergency room gave me Tamiflu tablets worked great... and is about the same as this new pill...

This new "pill" according to the news reports is actually a series of pills at a current price point of $700 for one course of treatment. The US government committed months ago to purchase 1.7 million courses upon Emergency Use Authorization by the regulators;

While the studies (not yet peer reviewed) are promising, more work needs to be done regarding side effects, and real sustained efficacy/effectiveness.

Additionally, other companies have similar pills in their drug pipelines, but are said to be at least a year away from emergency use authorization. The Merck pill(s) could get US regulatory approval for Emergency Use by the end of this year.

This could be good news in the fight against Covid............just hope the reality aligns with the hype..................and does not end up more placebo-like than effective.

I for one an happy to see that some research is producing results to treat a covid infection in the body. We know that the vaccines are limited in their ability to prevent an infection and are not a complete guarantee against a serious infection that may require medical intervention. Vaccinations are certainly a benefit but an effective and affordable treatment is desperately needed the world over. Hopefully soon we will have a pill that will kill off Covid-SARS-2 that is more than just 50% effective. There is going to be new cases of Covid infection for a long time to come. We need to be able to treat these cases and stop the virus in its tracks to prevent future spread, mutations and serious illness.

Of course I know the reason Altagracia, Puerto Plata and the center of Santo Domingo all magically hit 70% full vaccination.

I just wondered when the curfew was going to be rescinded in POP Province as promised.

And if the DR was going to get any magic pills as well. People love pills here.

You left one out. What about Pedernales? What is your excuse for them gaining the "Magic Number"? Any Opiinions on this one?

None whatsoever. The government can make up any numbers they want. I am not privy to Pedernales.

All I want to know is when Puerto Plata Province will not have any curfew as promised, Do you have that answer? That is what I am looking for.
And when the DR gets "the pill"...
