Most of the Haitians being deported did enter illegally. In fact, even with the deportations there are new illegal Haitians arriving daily, and most have no passport at all. Yes, there is chaos and bureaucracy making the situation worse, but the massive numbers of illegals are part of that problem. Difficult to separate the good plants in a field full of weeds. I agree with the rest of your statement.
A good analogy...it would be nice if some effort to separate good from bad is done rather than burning the entire field though.

I just don't see how that could work. And trust me, I would love it to work. But if you're trying to deport 10k peeps a week, you want numbers, not accuracy.
But surely that's the reason why the random target figure of 10,000 deportations a week makes no sense! You are talking about actual human beings here, not just numbers.

where i live in the campo many who have lived here for years are afraid to be seen as the migration comes every few days now.
they pay higher rents, and taxi extract huge fares from them to pay for police bribes.
Very hard for these people now and I feel very bad for them.

So, the government's plan is working?

Many of the Haitians now being deported did not enter the DR illegally, and everyone pays their share of that 18% tax on applicable purchases, so those two arguments don't hold too much value. As many have said here and in other threads, it's unfortunate there is no easy solution for those who did enter legally and due to chaos and bureaucracy now have extreme difficulty renewing visas, etc. Now, for the repeat overstay offenders, how about this: after overstaying and exiting twice, a deposit equal to a 12-month overstay must be paid to enter the DR the third time, and an escalating deposit for each subsequent entry after overstay? (just a thought, no need to go way off topic and debate that in this thread)
I gave up trying to get a visa until they simplify the process and insure that a person like me being in the 37% tax bracket in the US can get it.10 years ago, I tried twice and it did not go through. I was using a lawyer who was referencing on this site. Did not get a clear explanation why it did not go through.I have no criminal record maybe a speed ticket in 30 years .

Had never an issue or a comment related to the overstay when I was leaving or coming back in the country which is 5,6 times a year.
Only comments that I see related to overstay are on this site .

Peace really Peace :)

Interesting, but I don't really see what relevance it has to this thread about bribes being taken by the military from Haitians.

On the thread's topic, I don't think using surveillance cameras will work at all. Once the officials know they are there, there are a million ways to take a bribe out of sight.
