Only thing I have seen or heard of Dominicans refer to as a Juron looks like the image I posted. It looks like a mongoose. never heard the solenodon referred to as a Juron but maybe so?

Here you have a juron or huron.

They're calling it a jur?n and an ardilla (squirrel).

I think it's a mongoose and it's become part of the culture to call it a jur?n.

Whatever is correct it's a cute angry little bugger.

My father in law has some land and was chopping and checking his yuca about a year ago when suddenly a juron
Showed up and almost got into his pants. I have seen some lately in the Gaspar Hernandez RSJ area lately, crossing the road.

I've seen a couple scamper across hwy 5 near Seahorse Ranch. A friend in Lomas had his rabbits attacked and munched. They are around.

There are no squirrels in RD I think.
However, Dominicans do call them ardillas. I saw something from a distance in La Romana a couple of years ago that I thought was a brown squirrel, but it must have been a mongoose.

or a variation thereof........

our juron seems to be sleeker, thinner, longer and perhaps lower to the ground.

but the same family, for certain.

That's exactly what I just saw also. In my HOUSE. Came to look it up and found this thread.

I tried to scare the thing out of the house with a bamboo stick and as I was swinging it, the thing caught the stick in its' mouth and started wriggling around trying to pull it from me.

That's what I saw. I think that's a mongoose.

I did some googling and came to the conclusion that a Dominican juron looks like this:
