My method of packing fragile items in the boxes.
I LOVE, "Homer" 5 gallon plastic buckets from the "Home Depot"!!!!!!
They only cost about 3 dollars each, and you can get a tight fitting lid for a dollar more.
They have a million uses here in the DR, and are VERY sturdy, and the handle doesn't break off.
I pack them with the "Good Stuff", use clothes to cushion them, and put them in my boxes, usually 2 will fit.
They are BRIGHT ORANGE in color with the Home Depot logo.
Before anyone tells me to "Just Use 5 gallon empty paint buckets", don't!
These are better, and when they are stolen, you can see them from a mile away, and shoot the guy who "Borrowed" them!!!

Hey CC,

You can also get Gamma Seal Lids at Home Depot for the buckets for about $10. You can stack buckets four high with the lids and they twist off. Great for storing rice, dog food, etc.

Nice to see you posting again Peter. Unfortunately, we lost CCCCC during your hiatus.

Just today I spoke with a local Dominican here in the KC area who takes boxes once a month from here to NY to ship. His rates were similar to what has been posted here. The better part of our conversation was rather about how to pack the boxes. He warned against phones, tablets, computers and the such. If I want to send good sneakers, pack one in one box and one in another. New clothes should be mixed in with old clothes. Take tags off everything including such things as sheets. Don't send a place setting boxed. Open the box a pour the forks, knives and spoons in the box. Had me laughing but this guy was serious about the "shopping" that Customs workers in the DR do. Anyone else been told this? Farmer

The box arrived last evening at 6PM here in Cabrera
It was COD - so they called the day before to assure my presence to pay

After 5:30, I called to ask the whereabouts....
With the other hand, the girl called the driver and asked him.

15 minutos I heard him say....
Sure enough - he honked at the gate in 15 minutes.
Same driver for years.....

Really good service and fast when you pick your times
This was 3 weeks ... incl New Years
It can be as low as 2 weeks
