Whatever they are considered the DR government will not bother them at immigration. You can bet on that.

The money spent by illegal overstayers has the same economic impact as the money spent by” legal”, tourists. That’s an inescapable fact and made more important by the devastation to tourism caused by Covid. The new President and his Tourism Minister be fools to tamper with the migration tourism status quo. They are riding a popularity wave with their new approach to government spending and anti corruption initiatives. Jeopardizing any source of revenue would diminish that. Future better economic times may lead to a different overstayer approach. Possibly something more positive and conducive to longer stays.

Granted it may be smaller in quantity than tourist resort revenue but I think it’s money that’s well spent. Overstayers pay rent, some buy property, everyone buys groceries, gas, liquor, some buy vehicles. They spend at the local pharmacies, and bars. The money is spread around the large cities, the small country towns, and the rural areas. It flows deeper into the economy to the benefit of the local businesses.

The economic impact of overstayers is probably relatively higher now during the pandemic. I agree with just making it legal to stay long term as tourist. Up to two years maybe.

There are a lot of overstayers(snowbirds) that left in March this year and many who haven't come back yet and some are not planning to. Snowbirds probaly make up the overwhelming majority of overstayers that contribute to the economy.

Abinader knows he must get the tourist trade way up. That is one of his key programs, if not number one. He will not fool with immigration, as you have seen the DR accepting anyone from anywhere. Also no tests, papers of any meaning. In other words "come on down" as Bob Barker would say.

Always has been the AI guests, these make up the vast majority of arrivals. And smaller operators, like me, know that when the AI's are working, this means we have flights working and without flights we are screwed.

Can we return to the subject of this thread instead of being sidetracked into the usual discussion about whether or not people can / should overstay. I'd like to know how the form works, has anyone actually used it yet? And I presume that you can print out the PDF and take it with you, is this correct? I have had bad experiences of phones discharging or losing signal / connection on long flights, so I wouldn't want to rely on anything on my phone to enter a country. (My journey to get here is 19 hours).

Send the PDF file to your Email. Then get the Email on your phone. You want to get PDF File Reader in the app store, free. There are lots with the name, any one should do. Once you have the file it will look like a hash tag or whatever you call it. They will scan it at the airport I presume. Just open the Email up at the counter.

I wonder what will happen at the airport in the future when one person present his cell phone and all of suddenly its does not open or its drop, broken or whatever. Will they return that person even though he may have filled out the form in advance and beyond his control can not reproduce it ? OR Like they say here "System is down" come back tomorrow........?????

I was able to fill out the form on the website and generate the pdf file, What I am not sure how to do is save the pdf file to my phone and then what app I need to display it when required to do so. I don't currently have a a browser operational on my phone because I have to much difficulty typing on the small screen keyboard. Thus I am not able to currently fill out the form on the phone itself and need a way to get the e-ticket on the phone and to display that file when needed. I can figure out how to save the pdf file on the phone fairly easily. It is the subsequent displaying of that file which will need an APP and I do not know what to download and install from the google play store.

Simple really. If you entered the website and created the pdf from your phone just save it to your note pad.

If your created it on your computer than email the pdf to yourself as an attachment. Get the email on your phone before it processes on your computer and you will have it on your phone email. You can leave it there or again save it to your note pad

Has anyone actually tried the overstay website? I've tried a couple times, but they have issues with the site will never left me finish. Also had a group come in last week and they only wanted the paper forms, don't think thay had anyway to scan the codes yet- this was SDQ

I did the eticket to leave for the wife and I the other night and it was not easy on my Mac or iPhone, it didn’t quite work right, wouldn’t let me fill in a few things, so I did it again the next say on a Samsung device and it worked a lot better. We shall see what happens at the airport...

yea, some in the group said the same thing, but could eventually get it filled in. The overstay form it will never go to the second page after I put in all my info., so I can't upload docs. Not worried, just curious if others have gotten it to work.
