i would even make a residency mandatory to be able to purchase proeprty.
who is doing "such big Investments", has no trouble to pay for the residencyand the paperwork is not a out of this world amount,
or how would somany new residents per yera/day manage to go through the process?
do a snowbird visa and take away the joke of a overstay fee.
Anyone with financial resources, education, who wants to operate a business, has expensive real estate, an expensive car and drives and who wants to stay in the DR,
Obviously will apply for residence.
Snowbirds, three months stayers with residences outside of the DR will not apply for residence and subsequent renewals.
The process is a Dominican process, very cumbersome, lengthy, inefficient, and costly.
Those who do not speak Spanish and don't understand the system will pay lawyers.
As long as parallel overstay fines facilitate overstays, short term overstayers will not apply for residence.
Even more difficult for those who may want to stay 4-5 months and not 6 months or more.
My property is in my wife's name, she will administer everything as it is for her anyway.
She also enjoys travelling the outside world and living there, at least part time or semi full time.
I have other resources and so far do not want to live full-time in the DR.
There is a whole world out there DR for ever, at least at the moment would be way too limiting. (Maybe if I'm too old to travel)
One may live in Cap Cana or have a Punta Cana ocean front residence.
Once one gets on the outside the real DR will hit you in the face, with all that it entails.
DR government and infrastructure will not be up to par in our lifetime.
Anyone staying full time in the DR, does so knowingly, with all that it entails.
