The Hilton Coral Caribe in Juan Dolio is also very nice
and child friendly. Also has a lot of English speaking tourists there.
The beach is nice and the area is VERY much "family" orientated.
it is just a short drive from Boca Chica so day trips are possible as are trips into Santo Domingo itself (about 60 min. away) to see the historic sights of the "Zona Colonial".
I would definitely recommend Juan Dolio over Boca Chica if you are looking for "quiet".
There is also a very nice non AI (altho' most of the amenities of an AI are available) called Plaza Real in the Villas del Mar area of Juan Dolio that offers apartment style accommodations. Their only drawback is that they are NOT on the beach and it is a bit of a walk to get to the beach but they do have a pool.
