My plan. My better plan. My only plan.......
....was not to have shut anything at all, and carry on with life.
Those persons that have chosen to hide under theor beds since March are still doing so.
Sane persons have to provide for theor families, and themselves.
Less The Walking Dead, and more REALITY.

Apologies for the typos above. The humidity in the air has caused a stuck key within my device.
I detest spelling errors myself.

Can we shift the focus ??

It's ludicrous to think the tourists will be the major spreaders of this virus
The locals are as infected as anybody - and can give it to the tourist

Caonabo
I have been going on w/ my life every day since this began.... observing the etiquette
but going out
I have been criticized here for it

Beach when nobody did... town trips daily... mask and sanitizer
Haven't missed a beat
I have not just come around to this

It will be here for too long - figure it out - how YOU want to cope...everybody

Hunker down buckle up

Ending testing for incoming tourists is NOT a good idea. At all. Most tourists are coming in from the US, which is ground zero for infections.
Take a look at the past 5 day data on New York (New Yorkers). I would welcome them with open arms.

Life goes on for those that need, and possess a/the desire to work to provide for their families and themselves. Those that have lived their lives otherwise, relying on gouvernment subsidies to exist (Dominicans abroad included), think otherwise. For some lot, it easy to live off their respective gouvernment without shame.
There is no shame in receiving the benefits provided by your country of origin.

And here we go again with the broad generalizations without facts to back it up. I understand opinions. But explain what part of your post has any to do with COVID-19 in the Dominican Republic?

Tourist arriving here are on vacation. The got the money from somewhere in order pay for all the stuff you need to go on vacation.

COIVID-19 mitigations measures should be focused on what should be done to manage the public health risk in the best way for the people of the Dominican Republic.

Evidence is emerging that shutting down large swaths of society may not be the best solution. And that includes the tourist industry. On the other hand pretending that COVID-19 does not exist and no mitigating actions need to be taken is the other wrong end of a spectrum.

The new president has just proven that he's a complete moron.
Why is he a moron? You are making it sound like as if dr has zero coronavirus cases and the arriving tourists will introduce the virus to us. Guess what, we already have the covid 19 here and it's not going away soon. The dominican economy has to start or we will all go to hell. I am so sick of this plan-demic and the people who force everyone to walk around in a space suit.
Lets get one thing straight, this virus will pass through everyone and sooner or later even the most careful people will get it. The mortality rate is only .3 %. According to my scientific calculation, you have a better chance of getting hit by a drunk driver or a completely sober female driver than die from covid 19. Covid 19 positive does not mean you will end up connected to a ventilator. Most likely you will not even feel any serious symptoms and most people will feel as if they only have a seasonal flu. So stay calm and enjoy life.
Here is a Question: In 2018 1.5 million people died from tuberculosis, yet we didn't have to wear masks or even talk about a possible quarantine. Why? Ohh, I know why, the politicians didn't tell us that our lives were in danger.

Also that all tourists staying in hotels will benefit from a state programme which will cover medical costs, any costs associated with extending stays and changing flights due to emergencies.

Sounds great,

One will have to see how it works and what will happen, if tourists actually need to access this coverage.

One can assume that hotel tourists will have priority access to medical care and hospital bed's if needed,
Over Dominican citizens if there should be a shortage of beds or medical equipment.

Who knows if hotel staff has a high chance being infected by foreigners, or the other way around?
Still the majority of arrivals are from the US.
Canadian and European arrivals are at a minimum due to a shortage of flights, from those destinations.

May I ask why you consider it to be a good plan?
There seems to be a double edged spatula amongst the community regarding this.
Is it the influx of tourists that is needed, or the safety of the populace within from this dreadful virus?
So many questions. So little answers.
I doubt you could offer anything of value, except the socialist plan for all countries,to conform and obey, like sheep. You may have picked this up from your UN days??

ETA: Waiting for the comments from "my man" who loves to give me three long paragraphs of B.S." Who dat "he says?
BTW golf course at Guavaberry ready to be played today. I'm there! DR is sitting on go and will be pumped by a heavy duty line-up of top guns in tourism just as I predicted four or five months ago. Did you really think they would switch from giant hotel business to running a shaved ice stand in the capital. I think not.
Have a great day all!

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”

Reminds me of The Dominican Republic and the posters here on DR1. The Dominican Republic does indeed have some challenges ahead of them. But I am reading that there are still a few throwing money into the place. Who are they your "seasoned investors"? 🤣 They have the long view. COVID-19 will not be around forever. When life returns to normal somebody has to be ready to receive the arriving tourists and collect their money. Right now the low tourist numbers makes for a excellent opportunity to enjoy internal tourism in the 🇩🇴. All of us already here

"My man"! You do not have to put on your gloves and spoil for fight everyday or lace up your shoes and grab you stick to play hard point against me. But it never fails that one of the clown car crews shows up with their axe to grind. Who dey be? I ask.

Guavaberry. I have never played that course. Always intended to but never got around to it. It is good to see that you are getting out into the fresh air and sun. Enjoy your long walk spoiled.

I believe that the time to be tested is before you get on a plane to travel not after you arrive somewhere.
Without a doubt. Agreed.Instant test. Do you want TSA at JFK to be in control of stopping those that don't have a viable test ? Or, how do we certify who flies and who doesn't? I don't have a clue how this is possible. Remember those folks on the security line have been highly trained to read 4 oz. labels, yell at the top of their lungs "REMOVE ALL THINGS FROM YOUR POCKETS. NO CELL PHONES OR ELECTRONIC DEVISES", and take off you belt, hold your pants up and take off your shoes and hurry up. Now, we add, " HAVE YOUR MEDICAL DOCS READY. HOLD THEM UNDER YOUR LEFT ARMPIT AND CONTINUE TO WALK STRAIGHT AHEAD WHILE SINGING BESAME MUCHO". Not going to work CG.
