No need for Covid tests for arriving tourists

Ending testing for incoming tourists is NOT a good idea. At all. Most tourists are coming in from the US, which is ground zero for infections.

This bug is real, and doesn't care about someone's personal opinion that it's not real, or the danger is overblown. The bug doesn't care that, for "herd immunity" to work, a significant portion of the "herd" tends to die out.

I understand the need to get the economy back in place, but the way to do it is screening passengers before they get into the country. I would require the airlines to at least do thermal screening testing prior to the person getting on the plane.

Qatar Airlines is doing it now. There's no reason US carriers can't implement the same thing.
I guess you will not be getting what you want regarding any of your above suggestions how to to do it better.
They just announced only random screening and nothing more is needed. No US airline is going to require tests before boarding unless
they come up with a 5 second test.

Then what?

I hope they are going to cover the medical expenses for Dominican citizens the same way. This would be great news. Or, is this already covered for Dominicans?
Abinader said during his first speech that there will be a medical plan for all Dominicans. He has yet to reveal that plan as far as I know.

I believe that the time to be tested is before you get on a plane to travel not after you arrive somewhere.
And who says you cannot get infected on the plane?
All governments should put into place the processes that are best for them us in mitigating the public health threat to their countries.

ETA: Waiting for the comments from "my man" who loves to give me three long paragraphs of B.S." Who dat "he says?
BTW golf course at Guavaberry ready to be played today. I'm there! DR is sitting on go and will be pumped by a heavy duty line-up of top guns in tourism just as I predicted four or five months ago. Did you really think they would switch from giant hotel business to running a shaved ice stand in the capital. I think not.
Have a great day all!
Arriving planes in are empty but this is such an astute prediction considering the DR is one of what 2 or 3 countries that allow in the US🤣

This is just more confusion. Do I need a test, do I not need a test. Planes are empty. So what was your prediction?😁

Then I suggest you wear a mask next time you come down.

Wrong - Ground Zero was Wuhan, China and don't forget that. The curves are all flattening quickly in the States too. Latin America has become the latest hot spot

Life goes on for those that need, and possess a/the desire to work to provide for their families and themselves.
Those that have lived their lives otherwise, relying on gouvernment subsidies to exist (Dominicans abroad included), think otherwise.
For some lot, it easy to live off their respective gouvernment without shame.
I have been on a plane 8 times in the last 6 weeks, each time more and more people are on the plane traveling. Only thing different is people are masked up. Business goes on and it all cant be done via zoom

In AI' that is not important. Never has been. Never will be.
Even AI tourists like to venture out after a couple days of sunburn and swimming in the pee-pool.
What about golf. Used to attract a lot of the AI tourists. Having to abandon your round of golf because of toque de queda? No thanks

Won't happen if everything is closed at 5 PM on weekends. Who wants to go on vacation in a dead zone?
The word Tourism here means AI tourists. By far and away short term AI tourism is most important in the DR.
The curfew will not affect tourists within an AI resort (unless they were inclined to go out at night) . A CV19 insurance plan for short term tourists in such hotels is being put in place.

So you can see where this is going.

Do they have golf at night? I don't golf, but I think it would be expensive to light golf courses, no?

How would a nightly curfew stop people from golfing, at least during the daytime?

I know, they are a hopeless group, aren't they?
Abindader will focus on AI tourism. That is the money maker here.

I suppose. I'm not the one at risk, Windy. You are quite literally in the crosshairs due to that policy.

You can keep on with the "nothing will change, you won't get what you want" attitude, but I don't have a bunch of tourists - and the locals they come into contact with - all around me.

Time for the DR to stop paying attention to the lunacy that makes for Covid-19 policy in the US, and start following what the wealthy western countries are doing.

Some courses are already open with Covid protocols put into place. The Iberostar in Bavaro is open and I think Hardrock may be as well.
