Just one more of the innumerable "BENEFITS" of owning a "Time Snare"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope they got nice "T-shirts"!!!!!!!!!

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

I was just checking "optional & mandatory AI fees" at RCI website. Those fees are listed without taxes (so +28%) and they come up to be more expensive than if you just buy a "hotel only" option (no flight & no ground transfer) with a major AI tour operator from Europe or Canada.

I just was emailed a menu and was told that I could only eat at the buffets. $20 a piece for breakfast, $30 a piece for lunch and $40 for supper. That is more than to AI charge. We have $700 for the week. Transport and other needs are coming ou of the $700. We are just glad to be able to go.

When I go to AI's in hot places I really don't eat much, could do fine with one meal a day but I usually never eat 3 meals a day as it is.
You could load up on one huge ass Lunch meal each. :D

Sorry can't help you with cheap places. Congrats on your 20 yr anniversary!

How is this an AI if you have to pay for food? Odd to me, only heard about the extra charge with those shifty timeshare people who say your meals are included then BAM they aren't when you come back to start enjoying your weeks!

Whoops sorry missed the posts that it was timeshare!!!!!

Our son and his wife went to Ocean Blue using her 'travel club', and by the time they paid for airfare and the daily AI fee, I told them it would have been cheaper to just buy a package from a travel agent.

They did love the hotel and had a good time, but still......

One of my favorite hotels ... yes they timeshare is a bit "bad deal" if you know your way around how/where/when to buy reasonable AI packages

Take a bus from the resort to Plaza Turqueza in El Cortecito. It should be about 30 pesos. There is a supermarket there (Bam), as well as several restaurants. If you are budget conscious try Batu, just across the street in El Dorado plaza, Posada de Gladys, on the main road just before you enter Plaza Turqueza, or Dahlia's, right next to Bam. You may also consider getting a day pass to another resort. This will allow you AI benefits from 10 am to 6 pm (usually). At this time of year the prices are a little lower. This time last year I paid about $50usd/pp for Barcelo Dominican Beach.

Punta Cana Princess was $45/pp for a day pass, according to a friend who was there last week.

Take a bus back towards airport and there is a Super Pola supermarket at San Juan mall. Good prices and fresh food. Closer to you is also a a Plaza Lama supermarket in Palma Real mall. It is also a vey good supermarket.
If you go to San Jaun mall, just past it at the main intersection is a small restaurant called Polla Baracho. Really good food and very reasonable.
Have fun and if you are adventurous most of the small restaurants are quite good.
Also if you walk down the beach towards the Barcelo compound there is a beach restaurant called Posideon. Its expensive and has crappy food but behind it in the parking lot is a small Dominican lunch restaurant that is cheap and good. Serves basically chicken, rice and beans.
Hope this helps

Save yourself the 3 mile beach walk...each way. No need to kill yourself. Within an easy 15 minute walk you have Delicios de Bavaro...you have a new pizza place just a few steps further. Another 10 minutes you have some of the best chicken in town at Solo Pollo. You will be fine.

No idea what pizza costs in bavaro, but we had lunch at boca de yuma and had a decent pizza for about 300 pesos. Could have easily been enough for both for lunch. I assume pizza prices in bavaro are similar.

How much could a pizza cost at dolce vita? Beachfront dining for maybe 20-30 bucks for your 20th.

We went for first anniversary and were on somewhat of budget. Ate relatively cheaply most of the time but splurged for anniversary dinner at Antonios. Very good, but pretty expensive for DR.

I agree. Both are great places!

where is Uber when you need one? That would have been nice for the OP.
Maybe you can even find a local driver with a car or a private car rental. That would give you freedom to move around to visit different places in the area.
this is just a thought. Only those living in the area can tell you if it is a good idea or not.

Did you read the other thread on UBER?
Never gonna happen with the strength of transport sindico's.
