PayPal Issue

Just so all understand . My Paypal account works fine. I can log in, receive money sent by others, pay Amazon, Pedidoya and other things without problem. I can use my Paypal debit card and check balances. The only thing I am recently having issues with is adding money to Paypal from my bank. It asked for my phone number to send a validation confirmation code. Says my phone number is invalid and I cannot complete the transaction. It used to let me get email validation code but not now. . I reconnected my bank to Paypal so when I go beyond my pp balance it will take money out of my bank until I get this fixed.
Dominican phone numbers never work for verification codes with PayPal, even for Dominican based PayPal accounts. Even if you can add the number, the text message with the code never arrives. I have a Dominican based PayPal account, and I have a US based T-Mobile number linked to it, so I can receive any text from PayPal here in DR, if needed. I have Authenticator app as a primary verification option, but the phone number is a secondary option, and in some cases they may ask for verification via text even if you use Authenticator app.

If you are in DR and you don't have any US number for verification purposes, you can buy a prepaid T-Mobile Sim Card online, ship it here via any courier, and when it arrives you activate it here in DR (it's possible) and use it in roaming here. You can always top up via any online prepaid phone recharge. I have a couple of prepaid US numbers just for receiving verification SMS, it costs me about 3 USD per month to keep each number alive, and not just for PayPal but for any other service that requires US phone number.

So I would put the sim card in my cell. Can you have 2 sims in a cell? Or would I have to take claro out and put USA sim in when I need it?

Wouldn't you need to have an unlocked phone for that?

Unless you have a dual sim cell which is unlikely you would have to swap Sims...........

As the above poster has said.

Just keep an active sim card from your home country, when you get to the screen that asks you to press " send" to receive a code by SMS, pop in your home country sim card, and receive the code. Input the code, and Bob is your uncle.

We have t-Mobile in USA. When we land in DR our phones both automatically switch to Claro.
That is normal roaming from a US Cell. Her cell is a DR one, yours is US based. Same as taking my claro phone to the US and get free roaming on T Mobile. This has nothing to do with using a
DR based cell. Claro has roaming, but if you got the cell from Claro here you are stuck with the DR one while you are here. She cannot switch to T Mobile while in the DR without changing the sim......And if she got the cell from Claro she cannot even do that.....Needs to be unlocked........

I have a simple unlocked phone (not a smartphone) that I bought on Ebay 15 years ago, it supports 2 sim cards, I have both of those T mobile cards in there, so this phone just sits on my desk and every time I receive an SMS confirmation from any service to any of those two sim cards, it pops up on this phone's screen. If you ask me why do I need two sim cards, the answer is simple, on some services/sites I have two accounts, for me and for my wife.

In my smartphone I can put 2 sim cards, but as I mentioned before, I use another simple button phone for these T-Mobile sim cards to receive verification SMS. But if I need this on my phone, yes, I can put another sim card there together with my Claro sim card..

Here's a quick fix to this PayPal authentication issue. Buy a US Skype phone number 6.50 USD a month add some credit and send SMS to the Skype number, just stay away from a 786 area code. Skype numbers in the US can receive SMS, I know because I'm doing it.

@Jan Having read back through this again, I'm a little confused. You are experiencing this problem when, in PayPal, you try to move money from your bank to your PayPal account? Or, are you in your bank account and trying to move money to your PayPal account? If the problem is originating when in your PayPal account, is it possible to go online in your bank account to move that money to PayPal? It does sound like you found a work-around for now, but maybe not a great long-term solution,

Any Voip phone should do the trick. As long as the no. is a US one..........

Outside of Skype, what VOIP would you recommend?
Magic Jack. They have an app to connect to your cell phone besides your computer. And once you get up and running you do not even need a landline or a computer that is working. And it works all over the World..................You can use your DR cell for this anywhere in the World. And you get to pick a US number in almost any State............I used it in Europe at no cost to the US or from the US. But calling to foreign countries requires paying a small fee. But you can receive calls from any Country in the World for free..........

I use the TextNow app on my phone, which gives me a free US number. This gives me the ability to make calls to toll-free numbers in the US, and I think Canada too. The only catch with the free number is you have to use it about once a week or the number will expire. So, I just make a quick call to a toll-free number once a week, no problem. I did test it out this morning to receive an SMS text when logging into a credit card account, and that worked fine too.

I only use this when I need to call a toll-free number, I haven't tried it for other numbers because it's easy enough to just call those from my cell phone number, (tried to edit my first post but ran out of time...sorry)

You know some toll free numbers can be called on local cells by dialing 880 instead of 800. But you will pay for the call.........
