And if it's going to STAY open this time, let's stay ON TOPIC.

Posts should only be about Perla de Sosua and the missing owner/ updates. Enough people are concerned about his whereabouts, and they want a place to keep up-to-date. DR1 can be that place, if everyone plays nice and follows the rules.

Family members need to make a trip to the DR and pressure the police. Someone needs to physically
be there and watch over the progress of the investigation. Tell the police everything they
know, their suspicions and let them investigate.

Has anyone visited his business to talk to new owner?

good question. This is where the family should come in and talk with the police. I'm sure many
things are taking place that we are not aware of at the moment but one thing the family should
do is to inform the news media and make his disappearance public knowledge not just
on social media.

The rumor is that he sold everything and has not been heard from. Would not the first place the police would look would be the purchasers of the various pieces. If the motel is running who is paying the staff?

Yes

The Dominican Airport Authority should tell if he left the country, or is still somewhere on the island.

If a high profile dominican was missing this case would have been solved pretty fast.

I wish there was a government representative to stand up for foreigners/expatriates in the DR

Sosua is a sunny place for lots of shady people, including the local police. If I were part of Brent's family I'd get down here
and hire a good lawyer. Without one, they are going to have a very hard time getting answers.

Hello Everyone,

I am the disgruntled ex-employee that everyone is speaking of. Yes I used to work at the hotel and I was let go because I gave drugs to the woman mentioned in the original post. I am not a drug dealer. I gave her drugs that someone had given me. Since I am not a drug user I gave them to the person who has friends that do use drugs. She gave the drugs to Brent and Brent let me go. The day Brent let me go was the last time I was in Sosua.

Just so all of you know, I spoke to Brent frequently. Infact, I had a conversation with him on November 2nd about a party he had at his hotel on the 31st and some work that he was doing on the intergration of his booking engine, rentavillas.com, with booking.com. I spoke to Mr. Lewis often. He wanted me to go with him to see a hotel property that he was interested in buying in the capital but, I was not in the Dominican Republic at the time. If you don't believe me, I can foward you the emails so that you can see them yourself. In my opinion, this was not a man who was thinking of selling all his stuff and running off.

I did not know about Mr. Lewis' disappearance until one of his concerned employees contacted me. I was also contacted by another of his contractors regard suspicious emails that they had received from Mr. Lewis' email account. (We are a very close knit group of programmers and someone who is not a programmer would never understand this.) They were concerned that the emails did not seem like they were from Mr. Lewis. It was only after these that I became aware that Mr. Lewis was missing.

I also received one of these emails on November 8th, asking me to shut down two of Mr. Lewis' websites. Perladesosua.com and Rentavillas.com. I refused because I was already under the impression that these emails were not from Mr. Lewis. Mr. Lewis had been working on the Rentavillas.com project for at least five years to seven years, had invest several hundred thousands of dollars, and it was finally coming together. He was working on it until the day he disappeared.

Now, there have been people accusing me of starting all this. There have also been reports put out that I am starting things because I am mad Brent did not pay me. These things are not true. Mr. Lewis owed me nothing and whenever he did, he always paid me. Even the two times that he let me go he made sure I got my money before I left his property. Anyone who has ever worked with Brent will tell you the same thing.

Brent was my friend and I have known him for a long time. I know his kids and whenever he came to where I was living we would visit and have fun. This is even when I was not working for him.

Now, if Brent's family have contacted people and put information out there regarding what they have heard, that is on them. If my name comes up cool. I have nothing to hide. I am trying to be positive and I hope that Brent is ok.

Now, last week I received a call from the US Embassy, while I was filing a missing persons report for Brent's family and what I was told really hurt me. Mr. Lewis has not left the Dominican Republic. He is here somewhere and I hope that he is found because his family is concerned about him. He is a loving father that spends time with his children. Unlike the report that is on his Skype message, saying that "The reason the father is missing is because he is not being allowed access to something that is his, by the mother." I know that Brent cares about his children and goes out of his way to let them know the legacy of their father.

Sorry folks, this is not a man that is going to just run off.

Good to see you keeping yourself in check. No need to post any more photos of people with their children on
DR1 while insinuating they have something to do with Brent's disappearance. Obviously a lot of people are
concerned about Brent. Finger pointing while creating an entire thread dedicated to ruining someone's
reputation and well-being is flat out wrong.

Excuse me. If I had posted something I would step up and say it. That should be obvious to you because I am saying what I am saying now.

Yes, I do not like Geraldine. She is a snake. I said this to her face. However, if there is anything that I have to say I will say it like a man. I have no problem caring the weight of what I do.

Yes, I believe she had something to do with the disappearance of Brent. It has her signature written all over it. However, I am going to let the authorities handle it.

I hope we get to know the outcome of all this ( and that finishes well for Brent ).

Denny dee seems to care for his friend, wheras the lady seemed to care more about her reputation ( in her answer thread that was deleted ).

I am only saying this because if I ever happen to disappear ( hopefuly I wont:nervous:), I would like someone to voice his suspicions on every media available.

Since I dont know any of the players involved, I wont pass judgement.

This is so bizarre. I really hope they find this man. I hope that some of the people who are coming here to DR1 to post their versions, etc...remember that there is a family out there who are very concerned about their loved one. Sometimes posting too much information does more harm than good.

Defamation: (legal definition here in the Dominican Republic)
Note: the penalties are the same whether for libel or defamation, expressed in Articles 21, 22 of Law 53-07 on Crimes and High Tech Crime.

Law No. 53-07 on Crimes and High Tech Crime punishes this act as described: Article 21 .- Defamation. Defamation through electronic, computerized and telematics, telecommunications and audiovisual media, will be punished with imprisonment from three months to one year in prison and a fine of five hundred times the minimum wage.

The law No. 53-07 in its Article 22 - Public Injury. Public defamation committed through, computer, data transmission, telecommunications, audiovisual or electronic means, shall be punishable with imprisonment from three months to one year in prison and a fine of five to five hundred times the salariom?nino.

The word libel equals dis-famaci?n; ie is the process by which it is achieved severely discredit the reputation of a person. The actual defamation is that speaking ill of someone to dispossess his reputation.

Defamation is the communication to one or more persons to cause harm, an allegation that another person or entity makes a true or false, definite or indefinite fact, that may cause or causes of this affected their honor , dignity or reputation

Let me just add to this by saying, Quitting while you are a head is not the same as quitting.

Bickering will only cause this thread to be closed. Too many people are concerned about Mr. Lewis, so I'd hate to see that happen.

If you need to argue, take it to private messages.

This is how defamation of character must be proven. Just informing the viewers.

Defamation of character is a term that is used to describe when false statement is written or spoken about an individual with the intent of harming or slandering their reputation. Unfortunately, defamation of character claims are extremely difficult to be proven in the court of law despite the fact that they are illegal. Any lawyer will tell you that as long as the truth is on your side anything is possible.

There are two things that you have to prove to be true in order to win a case of defamation of character in the court of law. First of all, you have to prove without a doubt that what was said or written about you is not true. Once you have proved that the statement is in fact false, you have to prove that the other person said the false statement with the intent of causing you some form of harm.

There are two different types of defamation of character. The first is when someone verbally says a false statement about you. This is referred to as slander. The second is when someone writes down or publishes a false statement about you. This is referred to as libel.

Once you have proven to the court of law that the statement made against you was in fact false the last step is proving that the statement caused some form of damage to you or your reputation. Most lawyers are going to tell you that despite being the last step in the process proving that a statement has caused you harm is the most difficult part of the process. First of all, there is a clear different between a statement having the potential to cause you problems and the statement actually causing you problems. It is only considered defamation of character if the statement has actually caused you harm, not if it has the potential to cause you harm.

In order to win the claim, you are going to need to prove that the false statement has always ruined your reputation. If you are a business owner, for example, you would need to prove how the statement has had a devastating impact on your business. The unfortunate truth is that this does mean you will have to wait for the false statement to cause problems in order for the court to take action against them.

People just don't disappear. Prayers are with you, Brent, no matter the circumstance. If you are holed up somewhere and can read this, let people know you are ok!

If you are one of those who may know something definitive, now is the time to speak up.

If you are one of those responsible, your silence will not serve you in the long run. Karma is a bitch.
