yes, i can see cruise ship tourists sitting in the 100 degree sun, watching a performance by some bachata band. yeah. sure.

tourists will go where tour operators take them. maybe amphitheater visit makes it into puerto plata city tour or something. obviously cruise ship passengers cannot stay long due to time limitations and won't participate in events that take place in the afternoons/evenings.

In other words, their chances of seeing a performance there will be about zero.

The amphitheater-park is a lovely area to stroll through. Cruise ship tourists are already visiting there. Remember they can always tour the San Felipe Fort that is across from the amphitheater. Another plus is that the area makes for lovely photographs. So, with or without shows, it is a worthwhile area to visit.

it is a lovely sight. that cannot be denied. however, sitting in the blazing noonday sun is not something i would expect to be on a cruise passenger?s bucket list.

Sure it is possible. I would never go to a daytime show in the hot sun we have here. That is just common sense.

There are plenty of trees up on the hill and on the south side over by the Fortaleza San Felipe. Sitting on the eastern side of the amphitheater, all the way on top, makes for excellent views of the sea and the Fortaleza San Felipe.

Most tourists don't come here nov. thru April to look for air conditioning, they are looking for "sun".

When does something have to be ready in Latin America to be inaugurated?

Here are the more relevant denunciations of this project:

Since this whimsical project implemented by the State through the Implementation Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR) of the Ministry of Tourism, it began on 5 February 2014 undoubtedly have rained small - town criticisms against it and which in the opinion of the vast majority of citizens "that was not a priority for Puerto Plata" in the absence of the road to four lanes, the health system, among other issues that have been sought for decades to authorities.
