Gave up on looking and buy it on Amazon. 3 bucks or so. Go ahead, charge me tax on that.
Here on the North Coast, peppercorns come in 225 g(1/2 lb.) packages La Gaita brand, packed in Licey. Almost always available at Supermercado La Rosa, next to the gas station on the west end of Cabarete.

Does the government know that DR is already expensive especially in the tourist area ? Adding more tax will make it worse .Most of those new taxes will impact everybody including the consumer who spend vacations in DR .If I will look at today versus 10 years ago when I decided to move to DR ,other countries are coming to my mind for retirement.$ is not everything but it`s one critical factor to decide to move for retirement and for others to go on vacations.

Past 2 years ,I went on vacations in Portugal ,Spain ,Italy . All those developed countries are cheaper than the tourist area of DR. Cheap in terms of rental , buying real estates ,going out in restaurants ....

Personally, I am still bullish for Cabarete because I love kiting in front of my house which is quite a unique setup, but people will certainly start to look at new horizon if the tendance in higher prices continue here more than in other places especially with the lack of infrastructure.....

Peace
LOL, Ever buy orange juice in Spain, twice the price of beer.

I was going to say, here we go, beat that old donkey again. Then Mrs Abinader says "Oh don't do that I won't be able to buy my Chanel lipsticks" and the bill is dropped. It's only (relatively) rich people who import things using these services, Piantini would go into melt-down if they had to pay tax on their Amazon purchases.
It was like this that "only rich People" used this service but not anymore. Today there are dozens of this forwarder companies with many clients.
Almost everybody has a Debit Card today and is purchasing online. Having this said; i personally would not mind paying ITBIS on all my Shipments.

Not sure what the property taxes will be.
If people come to value your house its a great opportuniuty for them to take a propina for lower value.

Is the taxon the house, or house and property total value??

If the annual taxes are 1% of the value, a ,10,000,000 value is low , so many people including old retired people will have to pay about 12,000 peso a month extra . Thats pertty tough when everything is more expensive.

They value it based on what you paid for it when you bought it, the sale contract is filed at Hacienda and they are the ones who declare the values. If you bought without finance, your lawyer may have declared a low value. But if you bought with finance there will have been a valuation involved and the bank will have recorded the true valuation.

The current tax law already promotes all companies based in DR to declare the tax deductions on behalf of the employees.

Every time your monthly/fortnight check is made, the deductions are made immediately and businesses make the payments in a monthly basis.

The new reform eliminates this and now pushes for employees to declare themselves this anually.
Resulting in more user error and potential revenue from fines generated.

Not true, the value DGII has for every property is the cadastral value and DGII updates it every year, and it has nothing to do with what you have paid for it (what was in the contract). You can see it in your Oficina Virtual on their site under Inmuebles tab. The cadastral value is lower than the real market value, that may depend on the property, but on my properties it was always about 70% of the real market value.

I think that's true for land, but are you sure it works that way for condos and houses? Is there any way to go on line and see the assessed value of your property?

For my last property it was even less than that. I was worried they made a mistake until the agrimensor who valued mine for BPD explained it all to me.

Yes I am sure. You register on https://dgii.gov.do/ (Oficina Virtual -> Solicitar Clave) with your cedula number or RNC (if you bought a property without being a resident or citizen and used your foreign passport, they should assign RNC number to you) and after you register there, you'll be able to see your properties, your vehicles, your tax obligations and your debts (if any).

The property was purchased using a passport. Any idea where the RNC number would be?

In your property title probably? And how did you pay the transfer tax before you got your title? To pay it, you need either a cedula number or RNC, because DGII's system doesn't accept any passport numbers, so they had to assign the RNC to you.

If Registro de Tutulos put your passport number in your title instead of RNC, then go to the nearest DGII office with your property title, they will tell you what your RNC is.

Ok, thanks. My lawyer paid the transfer tax. I have a copy of the receipt, but no RNC number on it. Only a passport number on the title. Guess I'll have to go to DGII.

Just go there with the title, they will search by the property/title number, not by your name or passport number.
