It’ll be easier for some to get DR residency soon

I am renewing right now to get the 10 years. The hardest part was pulling myself together, collecting the documents and uploading it in the right format on the DGM website. Just need to upload photo now. It is very possible that having a company here with everything in order and owing a property smooths the process. But I didn't read the article yet though.

I would love to know the actual numbers on the amount of people applying for residency for the first time and their country of origin. And then the same for people reapplying. I did the residency thing 20 years ago but it was not worth the hassle of reapplying. I just pay the fee when leaving.

I have that category of residency and although they keep saying it is going to be easier and streamlined, the reality is that Migracion is a disaster. We have been waiting 35 days for a certificate that they should have issued in 15 days. It's just got worse and worse as far as I am concerned.

Wouldn't it be super if you could renew your residency and get your new card delivered by messenger just like they do with marbetes?

I can't see in the article whether you still have to return to your country of origin to start this process. Does anyone know?

In the OP, what does investment actually mean? There has been a lot of confusion over that. Buying a property under CONFOTUR?
Buying a big bank CD? Or just any property over a certain value? What type of "business" investment, etc...

Wouldn't it be super if the (only) woman in Residencia por Inversion actually stuck to an appointment time, rather than making you wait at least 2 hours because she is on a break / on the toilet / having some food / speaking to her boss

I have my appointment to pick up my residency and cédula card at the end of this month. Hopefully it works out before I fly back to Europe. It says something about biometric at the appointment on my account at the DGM with my application for the 10 years. So if it is biometric you have to be the in person I think.

It usually only takes 20 minutes max to get your cedula at JCE. At DGM, it frequently takes an hour and a half and all they do is take digital finger prints, foto, and print out your residency card. Ridiculous.

I don't get both at the DGM ?

I remember in the past going to the DGM and JCE.

But I don't think I did last time I renewed.

Yes, you have to go to JCE to get your new cedula. It's always been that way. It's at a new location alongside JFK Expressway.

And don't forget that the JCE cedula place has moved.
It was in 2017 I renewed last time and I only remember being at the DGM. It expired June 2021 so I am doing a late renewal. Will be interesting to see how it goes but I have the DGM appointment.

I am awaiting my appointment next week at the DGM. Will see where they tell me to go for the cédula. From the last couple of years after my residency expired it is actually my impression that you are just considered late regarding renewing. I have still used my cédula Id number at the bank, Claro etc. You don't loose it.

There is an expiration date on your cedula. Check to see if it is still valid. Some transactions, at some places, if they notice, are not possible with an expired cedula.

Yes it expired but with the few things I had to do it was not a problem. Still I look forward to have the renewed residency card and cédula card. Although I am actually not moving back yet. But I also used my passport together with the cédula Id nr.

Years ago I tried using my expired cedula to get money from western union. They refused. I had to go home and get my passport. (note-it was not my fault my residency was expired. I had to do tons of medical stuff they wanted, blood work, analysis and other stuff, and had to wait for money to get it done. I did not have to pay late fees even though renewal was 5 months late.)
