I actually enjoyed the video a lot, and I found the explicit honesty of the sankies to be refreshing and interesting. Though I cannot imagine that anyone would fall for one of these guys -- not because of any physical characteristics or their behavior, but just because it seems rather obvious that the whole thing is what it is, and one would have to be very naive and untravelled not to recognize what is going on.

My thoughts are that deep down, they do recognize it FWIW. Their low self-esteem or whatever other issue the sankie has singled them out on, however, still wants to believe it. Besides, they probably haven't felt the same way before (the sankies are professionals at what they do), and they like the feeling, although they probably realize it's superficial.
