As I understand it, your reduction comes only on the value of the vehicle. The 18% ITBIS and the 17% first placa are not waived. So its 35% of the reduced value for a returning Dominican, plus shipping, insurance, etc. Those fees also increase if you choose to container the vehicle as opposed to roll on roll off.

If only the DR would use a constant to value the vehicles...N.A.D.A., KBB, Edmunds, Mannheim reports....at least you could get a close estimate of the costs....but perhaps they prefer the current system of uncertainty...it certainly keeps threads like this alive.

According to the woman who will be handling everything once the car arrives, the returning Dominican and new permanent resident discounts are almost the identical amount. We'll see!!!

Mine was without benefit of either...so perhaps you won't receive as big a sticker shock. You will know soon.

Grace, what does the mister guess ?? Taxes incoming only.

I say they value it at $20-25,000 and 20-30% you..... max $6k

I'm getting confused. When we brought in our $42K, 3 year old Jeep in 2003/4 under our Temp. residence we paid NO taxes as per the law. But this did not move along quickly so we owned a storage fee at the port of around $600. plus the plates and stickers.

I priced out the same Jeep in S.D. not long ago with the same sticker price but they were asking $68K and I just turned and walked while laughing.

Somewhere else says that I can buy that same car in in the U.S., at less then the sticker price, and ship it here for 40%, all inclusive, over the sticker or actual paid price. So... I pay 39K for the car and pay the 40% all inclusive and it costs me 54.6K for the same car that that dealer wants 68K for?

OH... Any new temp. people want to make a deal to bring in a car for me? :)

I came in under the residency rule and got a 'Reduced' rate... 50% off.
To my knowledge, its not free any more.

To apply the residency rule, you must have owned the car for a year and can't sell it for 3 years.

Ringo, that's what everybody gets their tail in a knot about..... buy here or ship in.

I lean to bringing in if used and would do the math on a new one.... it seems adding 50% to the US cost is safe.
If so, bring it in -- especially if you get a dealer demo w/ 8,000miles..
They are a few thousand cheaper than new and have been fully serviced after break-in.

Quick trip to FL, drop of at Montero and you set.
