Everything considered, I think the best waytogo is purchase one here. Worrying about damage in shipping, worrying about customs, not having a warranty of any kind, is the savings really worth it. Today, I purchased a 47 in. Scarlet LG from Plaza Lama in Santiago. Beautiful picture with 2 years parts and labor and 3 years screen. Even if I would have saved 700-800 dollars, the warranty made up the difference. All the other models are 1 year on everything. I told them to call me before the tv is put on the truck. I want the serial number to make sure it is not refurbished. I even had them write on the receipt that it was in fact a new not refurbished set.
Luis is probably right in his quotations. If it is like the door to door to shipping of boxes, all is paid upfront including any customs duties. For my calculations, and figuring exact percentages, I would need to know what you paid for the 40 in.tv....I am courious to see if Luis from Monterey was accurate on his figures I posted earlier.
All in all I still think it's worth it sending from NY/Miami and not buying down there. At least you know you will be getting a brand spanking new TV (no matter the cost).
This message could be posted on any thread. Isn't DR1 becoming irrelevant. Adam
Hey 57 posts in 7 years Adam, not as irrelevant as you.

Power Consumption
The old style - with the big tube out of the back - are more efficient than the new thin ones.
Seems odd to me - but I'm told it's true

Actually a moot point now since tube type televisions may no longer be imported into the DR.
They have gone the way of the dodo bird.

Shiped a 55" LG LED/LCD 3D Internet ready from DC last MO to Santiago. $790 door to door. Set up in home and working good. Working on obtaining a VPN provider so I can stream NETFLIX.
