Skype - It'll go dark as of May 5th; Replacements?

The jury is in. VIBER AND NOT MJ/VONAGE WINS THE DAY! Remember my initial complaints with Viber? Persistence pays. The positives: 1. For any service that you rely on, customer support is critical. I emailed Viber customer support describing my problem and complaints. I received a detailed respone with a name, a trouble ticket number, and a list of information I would need to provide IN ONE HOUR! I resolved the problem, 2. I pay $1.99 per month for unlimited talk time to the U.S. to landlines or mobile phones and the recipients do not need Viber, 3. For an additional $1.99 per month (total $3.98), I paid Apple for removal of ads and extra features, 4. The UI is sweet, sweet--very intuitive. Loads of settings that you can easily toggle on or off. Skype UI gets a 2 "horrible," and this gets a 9--no comparison. I've already made a bunch of phone calls with no issues. THIS IS 100% A SKYPE REPLACEMENT BUT TONS BETTER! If something goes south, I'll let you know. Now I need to find out hot to export my Skype contact data -- ten years worth.

The problem I found with Viber are that contacts that don't have Viber can't call you. That would also mean you can receive SMS messages which I sometimes need for two-factor authentication. Maybe old info. Have you found out differently?

Right now if you had or bought one now you can get an additional 5 years at $150 US. Also if you have one already you can add this on. Normal price after buying is $109 for 3 years.......If you have been reading this thread I have recommended MJ from day one for here......

I just bought it now that I understood how to get a new phone #. Total with shipping and Florida sales tax was a few cents shy of $62. I will keep the board updated on how this goes as time goes by.

Viber sounds like WhatsApp. Me too for two factor authentication and some US calls. I am going to try MJ. Just still don't understand the device you need. Could it be that was before. Now it works just as an App maybe ?

It is dual purpose. Both landline and Cell.........Just register on a landline and download the app on your cell. Then you register the app with your user which is Email, and password........Simple John.....

From what I saw, it just looks like a "widget" that plugs into a USB port on your laptop.
