I'm confused now. Where is that at? What is that construction on the left of the road?
The pic was taken from the Charamicos side of Sosua looking down to the bottom
left corner is the beach entrance and behind it (the right side up to the highway) is all of the
construction for the new plaza y trees removed. Looks nothing like it looked just
two or three years ago.

The plaza design is much larger than I thought it would be. No wonder it is taking forever.
To hold 170 or so businesses in two plazas, I guess they had to be huge.:love::LOL::ROFLMAO::eek::devilish:

Worse. Much worse. I don't know where to begin. I'm at a loss for words.

Anybody have a link for Izzy's videos?

I think the plazas could be spectaculor or a miserable failure. Time will tell

I think this is Izzy the Drone Operator:

If these ‘concrete shacks’ are only meant for the beach there are too many and in the wrong place. I don’t think it will be profitable to have a business there.

Looks that area consists of sand dunes with just a shallow layer of vegetation, no wonder erosion problems arise after stripping the vegetation.

They are not even close to done. Hard to say what they will look like. We should know in several years if they actually work on it. The plazas go much closer to the beach than I had imagined. No doubt that they are inconviently located for the beach goer. But then they are on land donated for the purpose and the squalid shacks were all illegal. And so it goes.

I think that open area next to the number 5 by the road at the top of the photo is the second plaza. It looks much smaller than the one at the other end of the beach. I'm not sure how useful it will be.
I never noticed any active work in that smaller area on the El Batey side when I went for walks. At least the other end had made some 'progress'.

The bigger area looks closer to the beach but that side of the beach the water comes quite close the raised area during high tide where the shacks used to be.

IMHO, the best places for the plazas would have been in the middle equidistant between each other and the two ends i.e. divide the beach into thirds, so that the bars/restaurants could have served the whole beach easily

You can't see it from the beach. You can see it a bit from the road. The work has been going on there at a very relaxed pace, like at the other end of the beach.

I agree that the plazas would be better nearer the middle of the beach but apparently the owners of the land didn't want that.

Please do not apply logic to the DR.

The central area of land was not donated by the owners, so no plaza there. There was talk of 3 plazas, but all for show to calm those about to be displaced. They did donate land on either end , so plazas are there.
The middle will almost certainly have condos and public beach access will be at either end where the government owns the land.

Relaxed as in a glacial pace?

I think they intend to take over the whole Beach .. not a single Shack will be Left when they are at the last Phase.
The simple Reason, If they left any of them it would be like wearing Clothes that dont match at all . it would Clash with their "Modern design" and look ridiculous ( in their eyes)
So their Plan is probably to get rid of everyone. and take it over completely. the Only reason they will leave the Middle Open is so the Condos have an Unobstructed VIEW and direct access to walk to the beach .

The plan has always been to get rid of all the shacks(?). The three towers will occupy most of the middle of the beach yet be far enough away to limit the riff-raff in the plazas from wandering over much.

So the side of the Hill which turned into mud and partially came down in a Mudslide really had nothing to do with the New Construction area,, thats a completely different spot , pretty far away .
That whole side looks like it could come down , especially with the Trees gone now.
