Dominican Republic and Haiti border officials and the “Frontera Caribe” project emphasize the need to view the shared border region as a space for life and prosperity. The “Frontera Caribe” project, led by the Autonomous University of Barcelona, aims to improve education, research, and journalism related to the Dominican-Haitian border.

Following a tour of development projects showcasing government and private sector interest, representatives, including Erick Dorrejo from the Ministry of Economy and Spanish journalists Santiago Tejedor, David Jiménez, and Álvaro Laforet, highlighted the area’s potential for economic growth through trade, tourism, manufacturing, and agriculture.

Spanish journalists are simply journalists. They should stick to what they know. Developing places isn’t one of them.

Sets of eyes and ears of journalists observing the border zone may have objective narratives as how to proceed to improve the area.

Oh, Spanish journalists rushing to cover the Dominican-Haitian border is adorable, like their own borders haven’t been busy enough with boat landings,
migrant crises, and Melilla turning into an episode of Border Wars: Iberian Edition.
But sure, fly across the ocean, maybe the Caribbean heat will help with the selective amnesia

Hopefully Bilbao and Barcelona definitely leave Spain. why stick around in a country where the biggest welfare recipient wears a crown and waves from balconies for a living?

Hows this for a story...

The DGM is expected to intensify operations in Dajabón in anticipation of the five-day deadline given by Mayor Santiago Riverón for undocumented immigrants to leave occupied homes.

Jiménez Lora will lead the search and capture operations for undocumented Haitians in Dajabón.

According to a military source, the new commander led several operations against undocumented Haitians in Friusa and Mata Mosquito, La Altagracia province

There was a video on one of the newsfeeds about Riveron rousting Haitians sleeping in a park. Not sure if that's related.

It is. They were kids sleeping in a gazebo in a park. I only saw one who got away, the rest didn't resist.

It's kinda amusing. Faride said it's not the Mayor's job to go after Haitians.

The mayor responded by going out and grabbing more Haitians.

Nothing to be proud of here. Just a bunch of thugs preying on the weak and desperate
The Mayor is enforcing the law.
As a guest in this country I/ you/ we should all appreciate his actions.

He is reacting to the threats of invading the DR from some Haitian gangs. As anyone that knows Dominican history well, sure most Haitian invasions were stopped in their tracks by Dominicans countering them. In not one was that done right at the border. That means cities like Dajabón was directly affected by every single Haitian invasions even if much of the DR wasn’t because they were stopped.

Faride is in Santo Domingo where if Haitian gang attempt to enter the DR, the Dominican army will try to stop them further to the west. They might not make it Santo Domingo, so Faride et al might be able to sleep soundly in her bed during and after those potential invasion attempts. Riveron lives in Dajabon and Haiti is right there, he might be able to see it from his house. Big difference.

History has a habit of repeating itself, especially when many don’t learn from what already happened many times before.
