this is wrong, their testing is not accurate.

when i tested using codetel to the ny server, i got this:

i suggest using a better testing service.

I have a question for all of you living on the island...HOW CAN YOU LIVE with those download/upload speeds? Is that part of the living-in-the-DR-101 course? The speeds above are what I get in my home. I can't see myself surfing the web like a turtle.

Somebody with a lot of millions should invest in installing a submarine cable to the DR, he will return his investment in less than 5 year with the bandwidth demand currently in the DR. The DR needs way more telecommunications companies but the lack of backhaul out of the country make that idea unfeasable (you have to buy backhaul from Codetel to begin with in order to compete against them, guess who wins??)

the numbers are wrong, the testing service is broken.

depends what you are dowloading - you cant download movies in the uk despite having better speed- they put a limit on you
why are we still doing this test thing anyway it doesnt seem to be a very reliable way to test for speed

Okay putting my engineering hat on, I don't think the testing service is 'broken'. I do think there are a lot of other variables that impact your results, for example:

1. do you have a torrent file open?

2. are you streaming youtube at the same time?

3. do you have outlook open into a corporate vpn?

4. what time of day are you running the test - as even your local ISP will have peaks and troughs of capacity

BUT*** Bottom line, what do you think the above 4 variables would do to the final final result?

To me, if a test says 0.5mb/s and normalizing for all the above variables brings the result to 1.5mb/s...it's irrelevant. Why? because 1.5 is still CRAP!

IS ANYBODY getting 10+ on this island??

You can not get 10MB+ in the DR. Maybe dedicated, but I guarantee you will be paying US$1,000s of US$ monthly for this.

Not on the Internet, but possibly other ways.

Not Bad from Argentina.. I'm in a promo that only costs me about 30USD per month for a year and then it goes up to about 50USD. I usually switch to another promo for a year and I'm good.

After all Carlos Slim didn't make his money by being generous.

Dear Carlos Slim

Maybe you can try this route. They say the are getting 5 mbits/sec now.

I know the owner of this blog. They now live in Miami and have a very fast connection :)

It's all about who you know and being able to pick up the phone and have someone take action. I know that's sad, but thats the way it is here.

On a side note...

The owners of the blog have developed a great iPhone and iPad app.
