I have alltheright papers.... IF I stop, I usually am polite and patient while they review everything..... and usually , they let me go.

Once, my insurance card was out of date.....they stopped me while I was coming from the airport... the new one wasat the house.
I had a driver, who advised to pay 100 pesos for the out of date card = DONE!!

BTW.... nothing siad about my passenger beer

Returning home late one night from La Canela to Santiago, got stopped at a road-block near the bridge. The guy approached my s.u.v had a dirty uniform on, was unshaven, and was carrying a pistil grip shotgun that looked like it had been left out on the salty beach for 5 years. I did not have a problem per-say however my girl friend did all the talking and I could not understand the Spanish slang .When I later drove off my girlfriend said I would have had a big problem had she not been with me. She said the guy was very desperate and she was getting concerned. She told him we were returning home from a political fund raiser. I try to limit my driving outside of downtown after dark.

Oh I can tell you what she told the man, she told him" look he is MY hustle go find your own hustle" LOL

Don't let your girl tell you stuff like this" it's a good thing I was here because they would have robbed, killed, assulted etc.

You will find this in chapter 5 in the book " How to Maximized life with the Gringo" it teaches Dominican women how and when to use this statement" Its a good thing I was here"

There are a lot of frauds out there at the moment, anyone robbing a uniform from a washing line is out there to rob these days. You simply can't be sure who you are dealing with. It never hurts to have someone with you who can understand what is going on. There are some idiots about who will tell you that every Dominican woman you can meet is out to rob and scam you, but sympathize with their situation, they know no different from personal experience, it is obviously painful for those in this frame of mind.
These days it is easiest just to ignore traffic cops as if they are invisible, PN are a little different, they might ping your car if you ignore them, but the TRaffic cops are just toy soldiers, run em over.

probably, in the case of the OP, AMET took the money with a facade of officialdom, so even if people saw, they would think they were simply collecting the fine the prescribed legal way. in our case, my buddy just handed the guy his registration form with a nickel folded neatly inside.

There is no facade to them taking the money as AMET is not charged with the duty of collection fines. I experience with plenty of them taking money (however I never paid more than a couple hundred). Only speak English (or whatever your foreign tongue is) they usually get frustrated.
I agree with the video, ask their name (or let them see you writing it down from their uniform).
It usually isn't too difficult.
By NO means ever follow them as they sometimes direct people. This is a HORRIBLE idea whether they are real cops and worse yet if they are fakes in cop uniforms.

The simple way to avoid (SC)AMET in Sosua is to go into town between 12pm & 2pm when they're re-filling their bellies.

Upholding the law be damned when there's chicken rice n beans on the table lol

On those rare occasions I have to go past them during office hours I always make sure I'm not looking at them & change down a gear or two & accelerate ..... my truck needs a new hood ornament ;)

I got pulled over a few times driving my motorbike (125cc) at one of those road blocks where the would check everyone for the matricula and so on. I never had problems and only once the guy wanted to see in addition to the matricula my insurance and driver's license which were all fine except for the fact that the matricula was not in my name. He did not criticize that though, but handing me back everything he told me that he would like to drink a jugo later, so I gave him 50 pesos and left.
Reading those posts now I assume that I just could have said "good for you", not giving him one pesos and leave, or could he have made any trouble because the matricula was not in my name?

So one just has to insist in plain spanish on a ticket to be paid in a Bank, taking a few fotos and noticing the name of the officer. Is this the correct procedure to avoid scam ?

Got waved over by AMET on Estrella Sadala, Santiago, there were a few of them. As usual I wave and speed up, but this time I get a little scared as he immediately gets on his radio, so I stopped. Made him walk a little, good for the F%^&. I figure no problem my papers are on order. I hand him the papers, he says they are no good. I figure he wants a tip, I just happen to be in an agitated mood. I pull out my galaxy III (sorry Robert ) and start taking pics of him talking S#$% to his face that he will be on fayboo today. A passerby points out to the cop my sticker is in order. Turns out the sticker is hard to see as its in the very dark part of the windshield. He did not give me a ticket and I did not tip him.

Questions: Can I take pics and/or videos of cops legally? Does the sticker have to be in the non dark part of the windshield?

Next time I get stopped I will tell the cop that I am thirsty and can HE spare 100 pesos.

P.S. If anyone wants the pic of the cop for their wallpaper, PM me.

It happen to me in Sosua in january. He told me to get at the office on top of the hill. He did say to me that i had pass the red light. I passed on the green but what to argue for ?? I was going to the beach with the family and did not want to spend the day going down to the bank and then back again to the hill, so i ended giving the only cash i had with me 1350 pesos unsted of the 1500pesos he was asking . He did put the money in is pocket, no receipt, and gave me a coconut. I went back to the car and went down hill to enjoy the beach. I hope one day someone will clean thoses rats forever.

Another overtakes everybody and goes through on red. Light goes green . Guy in the middle roars off. 2 cars in front go normally. I m third, off I go, cross intersection, amet lady pops out and says u went through on red. unbelievable!!!!! She even gave me a ticket but it had no amount or address or nothing on it so I never paid..... like 5 years ago.

There's an IQ prerequisite of 80 to be an AMET.
