For me Sosua is ****ed up !!, I live in Costambar and no police, National or Politur ever did the **** you guys are talking about here, they are all friendly and helpful and in the worst case ask you for a bebida !!!

If you do that on a regular base, ( I mean, once a week or so ) they check your property 10 times a day and night ;-)

Maybee I am stupid

I was walking down the street, minding my own business. I saw a police motorcycle ride by in front of me. Instead of passing me by, it suddenly slowed down and stopped, and the officer on the back hopped off and approached me. He greeted me in Spanish and asked me how I was doing. I replied that I was fine but I felt a sense of concern about the situation. I calmly walked by the police and then he hopped on the bike with the other cop and drove off.

The officer was polite but something seemed off. What made me nervous is that I just got through reading a book on the DR and it said that Sosuan cops are extremely corrupt, and known to arrest local men and women for no reason whatsoever, other than they felt like it. Then the locals had to pay a fine to get out of jail. My theory is that the cops thought I was a Dominicano. They were about to arrest me for no reason but when they greeted me and I responded they instantly realized I was a foreigner, so they left me alone. Has anyone else ran into a situation like this? I'm really wary of police in general. I didn't care for them back in the USA and actively avoided them(a wise move for Black American men). The cops here seem to be more dangerous in their own way.

Cops here randomnly stop young dominicans, especially dark skinned dominicans. Its not to arrest them but to see what they are up to in that area, check papers, etc. yea I know, messed up, but true. as long as they're not up to no good and everythings in order, they usually just let them go. Unless a crime has been committed near by and the person fits the description, then they haul everyone they find fitting that description to the station.

Dark Scorpion. You say you didn't care for the police back in the U.S. That is a telling statement. It indicates that you may have a problem with the P.D in general.I treat the Police here with respect and a dose of humor as Frank12 suggests and have had little to no problems.

Never happened to me in Sosua. I have only been there 1 time anyway.

In Punta Cana, I had a tourist cop follow me to the bathroom and looked over the stall. I guess he either wanted to see my
pecker or to see if I was doing drugs.

I told him if I can take a leak in peace. He left me alone.

Talk about weird!!!!!!!

That was weird alright; that tourist cop must swing the other way.

You must not be familiar with the relationship Black men in America have with law enforcement. If you were familiar with this history, you could understand why I'm wary of all cops, American and foreign. Here is a video clip which single handedly lead to one of the largest riots in America history, it nicely sums up the relations between Blacks and police:

I lived in the Los Angeles area when Rodney King got beat. I was there when the riots started and stray bullet hit our home while we were eating. American cops can be ruthless but Dominican cops are a Mafia. The Sosuan Cops might as well be an organized crime group, everyone knows they run Sosua and are among the most feared police in the DR. Latin American cops in general are bad. In your post you seem to indicate that they should be taken lightly but I believe that is a mistake. Dominican cops have made people disappear. It is unwise to take them lightly.
