They are obviously trying to DE STABILIZE the whole Town ... and then Swoop in and buy it up CHEAP.
the Big Money Real Estate Moguls are obviously waiting in the wings ... and they are getting ANTSY because it has not happened yet so they keep trying any angle they can .
Anyone with half a brain can figure this stuff out .. These people could care LESS about Putas walking the streets
and the " morality" of the " good people" in town .. Half of them WORK in the very businesses which cater to same travelers .
good grief .

Sosua, the Amsterdam of the Caribbean. I love it just the way it is and will continue to enjoy it. Compare it to Atlantic city N.J. Now there is a disgusting town that they have been trying to change for 40 years. Drug addicts everywhere, homeless derelicts all over the board walk , derelict buildings throughout the town, corruption, extremely high property tax that will keep any real estate investor away even for a vacant beach block lot going for 50gs and street crime galore. I feel so much more safe in Sosua than I would walking around Atlantic City

I've no doubt many do. I wouldn't compare taking a girlfriend to a cabana on the same level with chasing prostitutes.

The people who live in the areas I've lived in for the most part are not that type. Most are good families who go to church on Sundays and pretty much hang out together.

That kind of people still exist (thank the Lord) and I don't mind living among them.

oh yea, everyone knows you have to go to church on Sunday to be a "good family" and its ok to bang your girl friend in a cabana just as long as you are not paying her

Here is an Idea... Dont like it , DONT GO there ..
Once agin, this is not about me. I go to Sosua occasionally for various reasons, the most recent to pick up a Great Dane puppy.

I am merely passing on what ~others~ are saying, not what ~I~ am saying.

And in accordance with your suggestions, "they" *don't* go to Sosua.

JD426 said:
I have NO Dog in the fight either ..
but last time I checked , whats LEGAL is LEGAL...
Anything else here is " virtue signaling" ( your phrase) , and right now my friend .. that is exactly what you are doing.
I disagree.

I am not "virtue signaling" when I pass on someone else's comments.

"Legal" and "acceptable" are two different concepts. For instance, it is more common than not for legal "adult businesses" in the states, you know, book stores, video rental places, nude bars, etc., are zoned to areas elected representatives vote in Zoning boards, usually away from "family" areas, often to industrial areas. You don't see girlie bars next to schools, churches, etc. 4-COP bars are excluded from certain areas.

And while I have no idea what "zoning", if any, exists in Sosua, what the city leaders are doing is at the bidding of their constituents, the people who vote them into office, or by national leaders who fund towns based on the Dominican "system." I assume there is a $$$ battle for the votes and actions of these leaders, and would be surprised to learn that the proprietors of the girly places have not tried to influence actions with copious amounts of cheese. I assume their desires are abundantly clear to the politicians in power.

For the record, I don't care what happens in Sosua. Again: no dog in the fight. But if a brothel or whore bar or Pimp Daddy Playa' hotel moved into my neighborhood in Jarabacoa, I would certainly object and make my thoughts known to the powers that be. I admit to the classic NIMBY.

I will bet that if a brothel moved next door to Casa JD426, you'd also not be so concerned about "it's legal", and welcome it and it's clientele with open arms. You know, NIMBY...

Yes, I've even been to a cabana with a woman before.

I lived here long enough to know there are all kinds of people in this country and I've become a pretty good judge of the kind of folks I chose to live around. So far I've done really well.

I'll leave it at that.

I never knew anyone who had to chase them.

"The people who live in the areas I've lived in for the most part are not that type".???????
I doubt you know that much about the secret sexual activities of your neighbors.
If the wife does not know its unlikely you do.

I do not mind living among them either and while I disagree with some of their values I am not forcing them to all bunch up and live in a certain section of town.
It is called live and let live but they cannot do it.
Instead they want us all to be just alike or live separate according to labels they place on other people.

I wager more than a few of the men in your good families that go to church on Sun are in the cabanas on Monday.
Its part of human nature and exists even among the church going crowd.
Live with them all you like but lets not pretend you or they are any better or special.

The topic is the future of Sosua. One point in that topic is the embarrassment and disgust Dominicans have over one tiny part of Sosua. That disgust is caused by the world wide visibility of the prostitution on that otherwise less than significant area of the country.

Garbage in the streets, lack of hospitals, police behavior , improving the beach, lack of education or cabanas that Dominicans use with or without prostitutes are all different subjects that could be relevant to Sosua. These other topics must be some of the "trees" (or shrubbery) for which others cannot see the "forest" when it comes to how Dominicans feel about the place because of the hookers.

I also wouldn't compare taking a girlfriend to a cabana on the same level as chasing prostitutes. I think it is much worse for a married man to be having sex with a girlfriend on the side than it is for a single man chasing prostitutes in a country where prostitution is legal.

There are many hookers in the rest of the country. I would hazard to guess, many more.

Years ago, probably 8 or so i went twice to sosua.
Once to the beach and once to the town proper at night while waiting for a friend arriving on a condor charter that was hours late.
I actually said to my wife that sosuans (?) needed to be careful or one day they would wake up and it would be gringo land....... she said it already was if the rest of the country was to be believed.
Now, replace gringo land by chinese or muslim and transpose sosua to your home country. A whole bunch of dr1-ers would already have their pitch forks sharpened and ready.

We have a rental that was booked full time for 10 years going back 20. They stopped coming due to that great change in Sosua when it became a whore monger town. Had some that rented just to have whore parties and ruin the place in one night.

We don't rent anymore. We save by NOT renting.
