Lack of education and intelligence is truly detrimental to ones progress and lack of emotional control (beta males).

There are Dominicans living in the DR who invest in companies in other parts of the world that do not have passive income in the DR. Are these people also considered “Tourists” because they spend their dividends in the DR that are earned through investments outside of the DR?

A Tourist is defined by Oxford and Webster. Why beta males like you and Big are content in creating your own definition for nouns and verbs, yet you don’t create your own definition for other words such as prepositions is beyond me...[emoji57]

Here such a short while and you are yet so familiar with writing styles and beta male alpha male and have studied prev posts .... that is I must say a Dedicated way to start your membership here..

Or could it be simply that we have ourselves a new Sock Puppet ?

we will be watching your words of Wisdom... closely ... please do carry on.

Some people have a grasp of where dollars come from, they are called businessmen, others are called hourly wage earners. Sosua has both
Pensions $ spent in a FOREIGN Country will ALWAYS be " Tourism Money".
It a WINDFALL of Cash for the Host Country ...
Same as the Tourism Money of a Family visiting .

Does not matter who the person is , or if they live there 365 or have residency or are " Illegal" over stayers on their Visa... They are bringing the money INTO the country , it was not earned on Dominican Soil ..
The money is COMING from ANOTHER COUNTRY..and is being spent in the DR.
The $$ is Tourism $$.. Not the person..
"Money does not have Owners just Spenders" (even a low life Drug dealer on the series "The WIRE" can explain it
This is Economics 101... a community College can teach you that much .
but you need Crayons up in here to explain this stuff to some.

There's only a few left. I think it will depend if Willy wins the election. He might push the closings quicker to send the people to his bar in Playa Chiquita.....or take bribes from the owners to stay delay the closing. Nobody knows.

No doubt Playa Chiquita will be the place to go and receive the most internet chatter, however, that doesn't ever seem to end well.

What Person, Private Company, or Govt Agency, or State Govt is writing them ?

Are you referring to WESTERN UNION money sent to Family members ? $$ earned in the USA for example, and then simply WIRED to the DR, to be spent there 100% ?

I honestly do not know ..but it sure sounds like Tourism Money , even if it spent by a Dominican ...

Or do you you consider even the WESTERN UNION NOVIO who sends his Chicas $$,, An Employee at a Dominican Co , or is the Chica the Employee ?

more complex , yes ..
Is Western Union part of the Dom Rep's GNP , since the CHICA actually EARNED it laying on her back and is now getting
" Residuals" ??

I know what you are trying to do there Cobra.. .very clever ...

If my wife's brothers and sisters in the states send their old mother in the DR dollars, is that tourist dollars?

I have lived and worked in the DR for almost 12 years. I have no DR bank account, even for money earned here. It all comes from the states. Does that make it tourist dollars?

IMO, your definition is too broad. Tourism dollars are those directly related to tourism, like my tours. Dividends earned by Dominicans in the DR but transferred to the DR are not tourist dollars, nor are dollars I earn in the DR not related to tourism.

Remittances through WU can be tracked by the Central Bank, as can wire transfers. Cash being brought cannot, although large amounts must be declared.

I do not think a legal resident spending a pension classifies as tourist dollars... unless that spend it all in a tourist establishment. It is more of a capital transfer without trade.

Coming down to DR end October, what kind of tours do you offer?

As has been mentioned previously, some people have their own definition of what tourist dollars are and they insist they are correct despite what any dictionary definitions exist. Oh, well. I went through that before with a poster declaring atheism as a religion.

Now we wait and see what happens next. The immediate future of Sosua is scraping and repaving the main highway. Hopefully the delays are not as bad as William Webster just had trying to making it through town.

There seems to be some panic and lack of planning on the repaving in Sosua. It would be nice if they did the curb work first then ground one side, paved it, then did the other. It's a mess now and the dust is horrid and then when wet it cakes on your vehicle.
I guess power brooms are in short supply in DR as the asphalt marbles are just left on the road and I can see the motos are struggling to keep their bikes upright on the uneven surface.

There must be an important event or person coming in October for them to be pushing so hard.

Even the side walk from Chez Monreal towards banking corner is being redone. I can attest to the shimmying that the motos have to endure as well as the dust in the eyes, nose and mouth on that torn up stretch of Hwy 5 from La Sirena to the main traffic light. Same from lower Charamicos through Sosua Abjo.

There has been a worker on a power broom going up and down for days....

I would not get too excited about any street repaving.
It will not last long.

Be nice if they fixed the sidewalks. At least they are concrete.
I look at the bad roads as having the positive effect of slowing down the cars.

Spent Wednesday night in Sosua and all day Thursday on the beach.
The bars were totally empty along with most restaurants. The next
morning I walked down to the beach and spent most of day at a
friend's bar (108). From around 11am until 4:30pm the only
people I saw on the beach were the people who work there.

Every single person I spoke with up in Sosua seems to be blaming the
recent crack down by local govt/ PN. Could just be a coincidence but
it appears their decision to do so has had a ripple effect on the amount
of weekend warriors coming down to party.

It was really nice not having to listen to any stories from the Jet Blue Muppets
while enjoying my breakfast. I did notice a lot more people asked me
for money while walking thru town then normal. I think I counted 8
while walking from New Cafe down to the beach on Thursday. Again, could
just be a coincidence but Sosua seemed very slow which in my opinion makes
it a lot more comfortable place to visit.

Anybody that wants to be surrounded with tourists wherever they go does not need to go anywhere. Some of the best places on the planet have NO tourists.........................

Yeah but not great for the economy of the town.....which relies on tourism.

I agree that it is not great to be around tourists or expats. That is why I spend very little time in Sosua proper. But they desperately need tourists. Nothing more boring than a dying town.

Playero was packed today with American tourists with full carts....their chicas doing the shopping. These type guys don't go to the beach or walk around pedro clisante. They rent their 4-6 bedrooms villas, call up their chicas, get groceries, stay in and party around the pool. It's been the new trend for quite a few years. Playero is basically the only business profiting from it.
