The new pavement might be a plus but they are doing a pretty sloppy job but it is getting repaved.

But the trash problem destroys the look on the North Coast. Everywhere you look there are plastic bags, bottles, cartons and Styrofoam containers.

At least Punta Cana has gotten on top of the trash problem and other pueblos seem to have more responsible citizens, but Sosua, Montellano and Puerto Plata couldn't care less about polluting (oh there are a handful of Dominicans but it's like 1000 to 1) - even dumping motor oil in the drainage systems - hello fish !

You can expect this in Honduras where the economy is dirt poor but there needs to be large fines, that are enforced and a national campaign to embarrass litterbugs

I have seen motor oil dump straight into the river.

Where are the crews as of now with respect to the repaving through Sosua?

As far as I know the new pavement effort hasn't yet reached Sosua proper (Playero). They must still be somewhere approaching or around Los Charamicos. The old pavement has been ripped up past the turn off into La Mulata.

Thanks. (I consider Sosua proper to run from Sosua Abajo after you come down the hill from POP until around CMC at which point Cabarete starts). Sounds like the are moving painfully slowly as expected.

If anyone else is driving this area, I would like to know how bad the delays are.

They are currently working in the area from the entrance to Maranatha to Sosua Abajo up to the small bridge. As of 10:45 this morning the traffic jams in that area were pretty bad. If possible it is best to avoid that area. Anyone traveling west to the airport from Cabarete or Sosua should plan accordingly.

I went to the airport and back yesterday afternoon and there were really no delays, but there was nobody working on paving the road either.

Only one side, really about 1/3, of the road was newly paved from Sosua Abajo to about Charimicos from what I remember.

Should be a big run on the car wash and air filters after the repaving is done. It is incredibly dusty and many of the motos riders have on dust masks. Looks like China around here, except the women's butts & breasts are nicer (they aren't flat)

I noticed the moto drivers with masks on, too. No helmet though!

Just washed my car today!

They always do this over here and I never understand it, they take out the asphalt of many kilometers, like 10 or more, then they start resurfacing at a snail pace, like one or two weeks per 1 kilometer or so.... !? (Did the exact same thing on that touristic road up the mountain - I am told they still not finished that completely !). It's terrible, the dust is now spreading to the side streets as vehicles carry it down, PC street was full of dust in the air yesterday afternoon....

If someone start a book on when they get it done (the segment with no asphalt now), I say Xmas if you are lucky... ! Easy to destroy, hard to build with this lot...!

The only good thing comes of it is that traffic has slowed down, so less accident, although the surface is really dangerous for motorbikes, so not sure if even that is true....

With a bird's eye view looking down from the hills above you can see the dust spreads far and wide and high. It reaches over Hispanola, Los Cerros and quite a ways up Mulata and certainly covers half of Sosua.

I suspect the asphalt is a priority to get down but you are right they are not moving quickly and with the tourist season fast approaching it is probably a higher priority - I am sure it will be done before Christmas, weather providing. It will be Ocean Village, Sea Horse Ranch, Casa Linda's & Cabarete's turns next

Like I say car washes and air filters will be in high demand

Can you guys think of the reason why they don't do it like in other countries, dig up a 1 km, asphalt it, then move to the next kilometer.... !?

asphalt paving has many components that must come together to be successful. Even if you have the best equipment (Caterpillar AP series) 30 to 40 feet a minute is the absolute max. That aint happening here. The asphalt must be mixed and transported to the site. The work should not be done in the rain, it needs a certain time to cure, more if GTR (ground tire rubber is in the mix). Gotta keep the chicas off the asphalt for a few days, it will ruin their high heels

Who's she? And the girls being carted off. Are they wanted? Are they in the country illegally?
