The gentlemen that visit Pedro C. pump more cash into the local economy in a few days than a bus load of snowbirds that stay locked up in there budget efficiency apt going to bed at 8 and trolling the towns for a 150 peso breakfast do in a whole month. I walked over to Pedro C from Alejo Martinez this weekend and it must have been 20 chicas that said "hola papi" and I am quite sure they didn't want to discuss the stock market and middle east peace. Bars will shuffle around as hey always have. For the peeps that express disdain for the chicas and gentleman that pursue them I can only say , sorry!! they aint leaving town!

Ricardo, 5 years is nothing, you should be talking about generations, you have to go back many years in Spain to see the same situation like in DR, but still, I heard from my friends that they are disproportionately large number of brothels and prostitutes in Spain than in some other European countries (!), so they are not walking the streets but supply and demands still there, in a different form and shape... (maybe it's a macho Latino thing.. !?)
DR prostitution problem and easy attitude to sex (and not talking about Sosua and foreigners, but the whole country) will not change in a few years, talk about many decades and generations, and that comes with improved economy of the country, specially proper social security and pension and most importantly support for single mothers from the government - way way in the future as far as I can (not) see... Specially when Dominican men in this country like things just the way they are (this is just a little blip on their radar about Sosua, mainly due to bad publicity, that's all....!).

I believe you have not been in any chica bar as of late. Many are gentleman that have clearly been gym rats displaying muscular physiques courting several ladies. Most are spending cash. Most are dressed with the latest beach,gym casual wear. I think you are confused with the budget x-pat/snowbird who is on a strict budget and wears the same stained shirt all week. Those budget clowns clog up the little bars and cant afford the chicas or the better restaurants. But now that you mention it they are the ones that are probably complaining about the chicas calling them putas , because they are unable to partake.

Just watched the season finale of "The Deuce". Great Show! It shows what went into and how they cleaned up Times Square NYC. Any ol' timers on this forum would remember how seedy that area was. The strategy was to close down every establishment that caters to prostitution, drugs and illicit behavior. The male bath houses, xxx theaters, whore houses, etc. They eventually moved to Hunts Point in the Bronx. They didn't want to get rid of it, just move it somewhere else. I guess it will work in Sosua as well.

my man, times square is a long way from the D.R with a totally different set of rules,but I get what your saying. I am still confounded with the anger directed at the chicas and the gentleman that pursue them. The town is and has been a decades old red light district and it has evolved into and around catering to the trade. Clearly when people speak of Sosua proper undergoing some powerful metamorphosis they have not been in town at night. It is not possible to redo the current structures into lux accommodations as they are concrete, old, small and the current infrastructure wont support it. That would leave the only option to raze the downtown area and that's not going to happen.
Big, you are preaching to the wrong people. There aren't but a dozen or so DR1ers who have any kind of pipeline to the power structure who are doing the harassment, and then it's limited.

I don't think it's anger at the chicas and mongers. It could be a tad bit of sanctimoniousness pushing our so called "superiority" over our less cultured brethren. The problem is we are looking at their issues with our rose colored USA/Canada/Euro glasses and not theirs. What do the Dominicans (voting) want? What ever they choose is fine with me because I will always be a guest in their country. I think some of us like to wag our fingers and poke our noses in others affairs. Well that's the US way!
