Not a bad walk during the day; I wonder if the mayor will install street lights.
Would be a good place to get mugged; might wait for a group of brothers walking down and hide behind them.

Street lights all the way already.
As long as there's power..

I saw the end coming as well - as stated on different threads here - post 2008 world economic crisis - the Europeans stopped going to the North Coast - back then Sosua was a great party town with Euros and North Americans.

Last time there in 2012 —one could see the huge change in 4 years, with nary a German, Dutch or Brit around & saw the increased tourism from Detroit.

Without a steady flow of tourism from Europe and North America any place like DR would die.

Sad for the families that live there and depend upon tourism $.

I've been going North East coast since 2013 & love that I'm the only fat Yankee on the Playa.

Americans are overrated

Bars were full - hotel rooms were pretty full as well during Winter months - lots of people and a great time was always had.

Not sure what you are talking about

AD was closed down because Dominicans that live in area complained about the noise; will mayor close down Ahnvee if same Dominican’s complain again.

If they haven't complained about NY Drink in the last 4 months or so, Ahnvee has nothing to worry about.

I was going to High Caribbean around 1998-2000. The place was packed. Even less lights then. Everyone went there on a motoconcho. No monger will ever walk there from downtown PC - lights or no.

I'm African American and often wonder why we're always all lumped together in one group? I've visited Sosua on occasion, but have mostly stayed away for the last two years because of the exact same element you're referring to. It's more accurately described as a social-economic / class issue than a racial one. Those of us who are better educated and belong to higher social economic classes don't like loud, boisterous and disrespectful behavior either. While in Sosua, I've met other black professionals like myself who are capable of going there and having a good time without calling undue attention to ourselves.

Again, I haven't been over there recently, but if what you're saying is true, and the bars frequented by African Americans were specifically targeted, I can honestly say that I predicted that would happen the last time I was there. I could see the declining quality of the black men visiting Sosua and knew that it would only be a matter of time before steps were taken to discourage them from coming. It would be different if they were spending money, perhaps they would be tolerated, but they are specifically trying NOT to spend money.

However, as to my original point, what you see in Sosua or even in the US mass media isn't an accurate representation of African Americans, it's very lopsided. It would be like me forming an opinion of every caucasian person based upon a trip to West Virginia or rural Texas.

Very well said. I have some AA friends(professionals) who are now no longer going to Sosua for all the reasons you stated. They're now going to Colombia instead.

Interesting! Same thing with the beach bars in Costambar. Local residents near the bars complained about the noise levels, especially on karaoke nights and the bars were told no more karaoke. High noise levels are pretty much a part of everyday life in the the DR. I’m surprised locals are starting to complain about it and bars are actually shutting down.

I don't know how much you follow the local news rags, but the govt has been cracking down on colmados and bars and confiscating speakers for a few years now.

Every month or so the local news runs pictures of the destruction of literally hundreds of confiscated speakers.

With the proper motivation and if you are in fantastic shape, a 15 minute walk is possible.

It can be a challenging walk as you will have to dodge motos, chicas, dogs, farm animals, and delipidated sidewalks.

The security at the Ahmvee resort needs to be excellent otherwise they are going to have major problems with their hotel guests which in turn could lose them a lot of business. To get to the disco you have to walk through the entire resort, past dozens of hotel rooms in different blocks. Now just imagine, literally's 100's of prostitutes walking through the hotel and possibly their chulo's/pimps with so many hotel rooms is a recipe for disaster. Even the guys that are staying in that very hotel and coming to Sosua with just one purpose would probably feel threatened to be staying in the same resort with all these people wandering around. I am not sure what their current security is like, but one can only imagine the 'opportunities' that are there for dishonest people! What they need to do is create a separate entrance to the disco area so that they have better control of preventing any potential threats to their hotel guests. Now who remembers when they came into town boasting to be Sosua's only 5 star hotel??? People were laughing back then, and rightly so....those same people are probably dying from fits of laughter!!!

Very astute post! By and large chicas cause no problems, however they and their "posse" together can and will wreak havoc on a property quickly if not appropriately monitored.
and yes I was one of the people that were super skeptical of the 5 star moniker to the point of chuckling, similarly of the pending alleged "Marriott" paradise.

Noise was just an excuse to get rid of AD.....remember they planted an under age chica in Rancho Tipico and raided the place..... Ad spend time in jail...they were always out to get Ad anyway.
