Then in your 10 years of being in Sosua you haven't made one Dominican friend hahaha.

Everyone knew about Rio Verde because you could get a beer and a car wash while you drank the beer. Frankly the girls which hung around there were well past their prime, if they ever had a prime....but there are similar establishments between here and Puerto Plata, but I am not naming them...we men have to keep some places private.

"Keep your mouth shut and never rat on your friends" hahaha. (Goodfellas)

The girls that were working at Rio Verde were the ones that couldn't cut it on the strip. I wouldn't touch them if they paid me. The saying was that at Rio Verde for 1000 pesos you could get drunk, get a girl and the room, and still have money left for a pica pollo and a motoconcho to get home.

There is almost zero accuracy in this post.
Ahnvee & Bourbon Street have the same owner. That owner is not involved in any of the large scale development projects and is definitely not a large player shaping Sosua.

The people shaping Sosua are the large scale real estate developers.
Hamid Tabibzadeh and the Russian billionaire behind Sosua Ocean Village are behind the Dream City (not Dream World) project and I doubt either of them are fans of the Ahnvee.

Boy... do YOU have the wrong person. NOT so well informed.

Sosua Beach Rumor and Hearsay - Three Towers?

On my way to Santo Domingo to file my citizenship application, which was accepted, I heard a juicy rumor which does coincide with hearsay I have heard before. And it is completely consistent with what just happened on the west end of Pedro Clisante. This was told to me after I noticed and commented on the line of cement blocks with fence poles currently being installed and look like they will soon be dressed with a chain link fence to secure the property along the main highway down to Sosua Beach...

I was told that three different "towers, which means some type of multilevel resort complex, will be built with three large buildings being built on the land behind Sosua beach. The money is coming from outside the country. Keep a look out on what happens over the next couple of years.

The land is owned by a Dominican family. Condos and Hotel. My guess is the buildings will be 7 floors.

That was the reason for wanting to move the beach vendors to small plazas on either end of the beach. But they'll probably continue to resist to the last minute. I expect the beach change process to start once all the fencing is up. It is going to need a ton of infrastructure to support the number of rooms their going to squeeze in there, that's going to take some time before they can start building.

Once everything kicks off at the beach, that protest could get really ugly fast.

Thank you for "confirming" as best as can be confirmed what the real reasons are for recent actions. As usual, I am sure the doubting Thomas' will post nothing of the kind shall or will ever happen. As in , there will never be a Marriott XYZ in Sosua...

I agree that when they kick all of those beach vendors off the beach, it will be ugly for several days. I have seen people kicked off a beach only 200 yards from my house. All traces of even cement block homes were gone withing two weeks. Most of the clean up took only a couple of days. This was a lot more "Stuff" on the beach than those shanties lining Sosua beach. Remember where El Rocon and houses used to be about 10 years ago? Tear gas was used, a GIANT front end loader, and the process was amazingly swift. But they will say it can't be done. Those people in Cabarete did not know what hit them. It was shock and awe.

I wonder if they will even bother to build the plazas at each end of the beach for those vendors that could afford to rent them? It was part of the plan.

Very interesting times for the future of Sosua, eh?

Protest??? That video put me to sleep. I'm pi**ed at myself for wasting the time it took to watch it. Where were the burning tires?

Very interesting.

I think they'll still build the plazas, some trinkets for the hotel crowd to give them the "dominican" experience, maybe one or two restaurants. A couple beach vendors might make it in, but they'll be under strict guidelines I'm sure; appearance, noise, open hours, etc. The current beach vendors aren't going to like that.

Since the current beach vendors will no longer be allowed to be there, I imagine they will like it just as much as the people that no longer have restaurants, save for those on either end of the beach in the new plazas, when the clean sweep is done.

I've been waiting a long time for the Sosua beach cleanup and I expect I still have a bit of a wait to go. As it is presently doesn't appeal to me at all and is not my idea of a beach - more of a marketplace with sand.

The public should be encouraged to vote for the two or three best food providers and a lottery held for two or three vendor spots. New bathrooms built with a full time attendant hired. Whatever retail structures are to be built are next. Then everything else is wiped clean. The winning food providers & vendors must agree not to sell the same stuff and can relocate to the new pavilion(s) for a reasonable monthly rent. Perhaps the first six months rent free.

Different strokes for different folks.

Why would the public have a say in this? The vendors with the most political pull and money will get the spaces.

As for how long it will take, it takes a long time to build here so if it started today, it would be at least 6 months before a one or two story building would be ready. Much longer for more floors. .

Last time I was in the bathroom facilities at miracle beach; they were trashed, so no matter how much they try and improve Sosua it will be trash.
