We haven't explored this area of the DR and we're planning to drive from either Santo Domingo or from Las Terrenas to get there. Drive-time is about the same, 5 hours.

Does anybody have any words of wisdom or advice? I think all the bridges that were damaged from the rainfall have been repaired.

We will probably stop by Punta Rucia first, then to Monte Cristi. (There's a lodge in PR that was highly recommend by some Frenchie friends of ours)
As bad & wretched as I found Nagua to be when I visited there, I think even it is more interesting than Monte Christi.

You couldn't invent a more dusty & boring place in your mind. Picture a Dust Bowl town in the 30s. That was 10 hours of my life I can't reclaim.

If Monte Christi was in the US, John Steinbeck would have written a book about poor shabbily dressed urchins picking their runny noses and begging for pesos.

Jimmy Buffet wrote a song "Dallas" with the opening lyrics that could equally apply to Monte Christi:
"If you ever get the chance to go to Dallas
Take it from me pass it by..."

2020, when you say Montecristi, are you referring to the city (which I originally assumed) or the province?

While in the town of Monte Cristi, don't miss the best restaurant around. I can't remember the name, but it is 4 blocks east of the "clock" and just south. When I take a group of scuba divers out there on a tour, it is always a favorite. It is on the corner of Calle Vasquez and Calle Juan de la Cruz.
