How was the beach access road, Bob? Donkey ride, dirt road, or paved?

Freshly paved two years ago. Current condition is unknown to me.Playa Ensenada is at the north end of Punta Rucia. Paved all the way!
As bad & wretched as I found Nagua to be when I visited there, I think even it is more interesting than Monte Christi. We haven't explored this area of the DR and we're planning to drive from either Santo Domingo or from Las Terrenas to get there. Drive-time is about the same, 5 hours.
Does anybody have any words of wisdom or advice? I think all the bridges that were damaged from the rainfall have been repaired.
We will probably stop by Punta Rucia first, then to Monte Cristi. (There's a lodge in PR that was highly recommend by some Frenchie friends of ours)
2020, when you say Montecristi, are you referring to the city (which I originally assumed) or the province?
