So electric fences are very cheap to run as they consume almost no power themselves.

That is until someone connects a set of jumper cables and opens a cerveza muy fria stand next to the fence.

I don't find 2 or 3 rows of electric fence wires running along the top of the wall very aesthetically pleasing either. That's when folks REALLY begin to think you have something of value.

All the public schools and most of the private schools have concertina wire on top of the fence. We chose not to because it looks like a prison. Between lighting, cameras, and iron on the office door and window we feel that is enough deterrent, hopefully. Good neighbours as well.
